Advancing Behavioral Health Professionals Expertise in Identifying and Treating Substance Use Disorders

Free courses for Master’s-level behavioral health students, providers and educators

We are happy to announce a new Opioid Response Network (ORN) initiative led by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC); NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals; and the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) called “Advancing Behavioral Health Professionals Expertise in Identifying and Treating Substance Use Disorders”. Through this initiative we are promoting two free courses for Master’s-level behavioral health students, providers, educators (e.g., in mental health counseling, addiction studies, social work, etc.) and beyond:

  1. Addiction Treatment: Clinical Skills for Healthcare Providers,” presented in 5 modules designed to improve the care you provide your patients with SUD; and
  2. SUD for the Healthcare Team,” an introductory-level 4-module course designed to provide fundamental information for all staff working in a healthcare setting.

The primary goal of these courses is to enhance knowledge and implementation of SUD screening, diagnosis and treatment among behavioral health professionals. All courses are offered free of charge through two SAMHSA-funded grants: 1) Practitioner Education (Prac-Ed) led by AAAP and Yale University, and 2) the AAAP-led Providers Clinical Support System-Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (PCSS-MOUD) with a coalition of national healthcare organizations in partnership with the ORN. These courses also offer continuing education credits for social workers, nurses and nurse practitioners, physicians, physician associates, and other learners (i.e., ICPE and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™) provided by AAAP.

We look forward to collaborating with you!
