Innovate, Write, Publish

The Program in Law & Technology (PILT) Journal is still accepting submissions! This is a fantastic opportunity for both LL.M. students and graduates to contribute to cutting-edge discussions in the world of law and technology. Whether it’s AI, intellectual property, privacy, or emerging legal issues in the tech space—if it’s at the intersection of law and innovation, we want to hear from you!


Submission Guidelines


  • Articles should be between 1,500 and 5,000 words
  • Minimal footnotes (15 or fewer)
  • Open to LL.M. degree-seeking students and graduates


Whether you're ready to submit or need guidance on your article, PILT is here to support you. Connect with Professor Nick Seger for assistance on crafting your piece. If you’re interested in writing in Spanish, reach out to Professor Pablo Iannello for guidance in that language.

February was full of action-packed events and valuable opportunities for our Online LL.M. community. Here’s a recap of what we accomplished together:

Exploring Immigration Law

On February 21st, the Representation with Compassion: Immigration Law in 2025 CLE course was hosted at Keller Hall, where legal professionals and students dove deep into the latest issues in immigration law. Attendees earned six CLE credits while gaining key insights into one of today’s most crucial legal fields. Thank you to all who participated!

Study Strategies for Success

Online LL.M. students gained valuable insights from Peer Advisor and alumna Monica Hayes and Academic Success Professor Nancy Levitin in an exclusive Study Insights session. They covered essential strategies, from adapting to different legal systems to mastering complex legal concepts.

Mastering Legal Writing: IRAC & Beyond

Legal writing is the foundation of a successful legal career. Online LL.M. Professors Natalie Tuttle and Nancy Levitin, along with Assistant Dean Margaret Ioannides, shared expert tips on structuring legal writing, strengthening analysis, and crafting compelling arguments.

Bar Exam Options: Choosing the Right Path


With the July 2025 bar exam approaching, Professor Tommy Sangchompuphen, Director of Bar Preparation at the University of Dayton School of Law, led an insightful session on navigating bar exam options for California, Washington, and D.C.

BAR EXAM SPOTLIGHT

NextGen Bar Updates

On February 10th, Washington, D.C., officially announced its adoption of the NextGen Bar Exam, set to begin in February 2028—making it the 35th jurisdiction to transition to the new format. This marks a significant shift for our Online LL.M. students planning to sit for the bar exam.

Here’s where things stand:

D.C.: Currently administers the UBE until NextGen begins in February 2028

Washington: Currently administers the UBE until NextGen begins in July 2026

California: Administered its own bar exam in February 2025 but anticipates significant changes for the July 2025 exam
