The Bishop's Visitation at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Pampa

On October 6, 2024, the Rt. Rev. J. Scott Mayer made his visitation to St. Matthew's, Pampa. Bishop Mayer confirmed Darby Sweet, Amy Kirchoff, Tiffani Kirchoff and Donna Hale. Michelle Cheatham was received into the Episcopal Church during the service. Following a glorious worship experience, the church hosted a lunch in honor of its newest members. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, home-made rolls and wonderful salads were served, followed by lots of cake! It was a grand day.

Advent Youth News Update

On The Road Again…

We are pleased to announce that Camp Quarterman will be headed to Colorado the summer of 2025 for the older camp at Cathedral Ridge. Our older group of campers had camp there for several years prior to the pandemic. Campers in grades 7-12 will board a chartered bus in Lubbock and Amarillo and then we will head off to Woodland Park Colorado.

Our younger camp will attend Camp Quarterman Jr at Ceta Glenn near Happy, Texas. It will be lots of fun and will be close to home in case one of our campers is homesick.

Prayers of thanks for each of our church family in the diocese and beyond. Thanks for your support of our younger members of the church. Those younger members can teach us (me) so many things about life, growing up, dealing with all kinds of stuff the rest of us (me) can’t even imagine. They may be young, but they are wise beyond those years. We should listen to them.

If you have any questions, ideas, or comments, please contact Renee Haney, Diocesan Youth Coordinator and Camp Director at 806-445-3667 or nwtxyouth@icloud.com.

Canterbury Report to Convention

Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry at Texas Tech attended the 66th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas in Abilene, TX on October 24-26. In addition to tabling for the event and helping with tech support, we also presented our yearly report to convention. To view this report, click the video below.

An Invitation to

Candlelight on the Ranch

Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry at Texas Tech has been asked to volunteer for Candlelight on the Ranch at the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock again this year. This year, the event will be on December 13 and 14, 2024 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

If you have never been to Candlelight on the Ranch, it is quite a sight to see. During this two day event, holiday scenes are recreated in 15 historic structures such as the 1838 El Capote Log Cabin, 1886 XIT Ranch headquarters, 1888 Matador Half-Dugout and the Spur Trinity Mission Church. Visitors will have maps pointing the way to each structure, and they can download the NRHC app for specific details about each structure and a more guided experience. Again this year, Canterbury has been asked to show how Spur Trinity Mission Church would have celebrated Christmas in the 1920s. Come and check us out!

If you have any questions, please contact Mtr. Leann Wigner, Chaplain at Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry at Texas Tech at 575-631-5345 or ttucanterbury@gmail.com.
