Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
This is a story about God teaching us through the eyes of innocence…
When my granddaughter, Taylor, was about 5 years old, she came to visit and collect fall leaves. In our yard was a diseased maple tree that had beautiful red leaves but the edges were black. She picked up a large leaf, looked at it and commented, “Gigi, it’s beautiful even with its blackness.” While I was reflecting on that statement, she looked down at the base of the tree and saw some weeds that were triple lobed. Excitedly, she picked some and announced that they were “holy” leaves. I asked her to explain. She informed me that they represented the Father, Son and that “Ghost person.” Her next action ended my lesson for the day. Covering the bag of leaves with triple lobed weeds, she announced that everything was blessed!
I learned later that her Sunday School class had been studying the Trinity.
Dear Lord, help us to be ever mindful of the lessons you try to teach us. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to learn from the children in our midst. Amen.
