Advent 2022

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made, that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth. John1:1-4, 14a

On Christmas day last year the James Webb Space Telescope was launched from the Centre Spatial Guyanais to conduct infrared astronomy to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. We are now able to look further into space than ever before.

I gaze with awe at the recent NASA.gov 'PILLARS OF CREATION" photo of stars forming in the eagle nebula which came from this telescope.

When I hear and use the word God ....God of mercy....Almighty God...God of truth..... I realize that one word GOD must encompass the creator of these pillars.

My imagination can only look on in reverential wonder. Words fail. I falter at even trying to describe what faith in God means on such a scale.

Next to my screen which shows me the pillars of creation I have this little olive wood nativity scene. There in the middle is the baby Jesus, my Lord, my Savior, a glimpse of God on a scale I can begin to grasp. Here is the Son of God now in flesh appearing. I have no one moment in my life that tells me here is the Christ.  All I know for sure is that my life would have been meaningless if I had not heard the story that connects the first image to the second.

Praise God that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us!

Thank you God of time and space for dwelling among us full of grace and truth. Thank You. Thank You.
