To seek God, and be Christ’s body in the world
Preparing for Sunday
The Fourth Sunday of Advent

"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” -Matthew 1:20

REFLECT: “…Mary’s pregnancy raises questions of faithfulness. But it is not the usual question or accusation of betrayal and infidelity. Rather, this pregnancy is a statement of God’s faithfulness and commitment to God’s people. In this pregnancy God renews all the covenants of history and again chooses us to be his people. God’s continuing promise to show up and live in the midst of our lives is fulfilled in Mary’s pregnancy.”

“So Joseph awoke in the morning and did what he had to do…He let go of fear. He let go of the villagers’ voices and stares. He let go of his doubts and questions. He let go of his own reputation and standing in the community. He let go of his ideas and hopes for what his marriage to Mary could have been. He let go of the law and punishment. With each letting go Joseph emptied himself so that, by God’s grace and mercy, he might become the womb that would protect, nourish, and provide security to Mary and her child.”

PRAY: God, let us be more open and receptive to your love so that we all might give birth to God’s Son in our time and our culture. Help us let go of things like fear, guilt, resentment, anger, self-doubts, and loneliness. May our empty womb be filled with your love, so we will be re-created, the world will hear good news, and once again we will discover God is with us. Amen.

Christmas Dinner

Our annual Christmas Dinner Drive for St. Barnabas will be held THIS Sunday, December 22nd. Bring FROZEN turkeys or hams and all the trimmings (mashed potatoes, stuffing, canned vegetables & fruit, gravy, etc) for a Christmas dinner with you to church that Sunday. Volunteers will be waiting in the parking lot to accept your donations between 7:45am and 10:30am and then will deliver everything to St. Barnabas. Spread the word to your friends & neighbors too!
Sunday School
Faith in God. Faith in Family.

Sunday is Advent 4 and at 9 AM is the full pageant rehearsal. Please note times in the calendar above, so your child is able to be in costume and ready to rehearse promptly at 9. This is the only rehearsal so we are excited to see the prior preparations come together.

The nursery will open at 9:50 AM, immediately after the pageant rehearsal. Megan will be ready to greet our youngest members in the small Sunday School room.
Christmas Decorating
Greening the Church

Decorating the church for Christmas will be on Sunday, December 22nd, at 2:00 PM. Many hands make merry work! Hope to see you there!
The Pageant
IT'S ALMOST SHOWTIME!

FINAL REHEARSAL
December 22nd is the only dress rehearsal. Children who do not have costumes will be fitted by 8:40 AM. All other children and youth should arrive by 8:50 so they can get into costume and be ready to go upstairs to begin the full dress rehearsal promptly at 9 AM (as soon as the 8 AM worship service is over.) We will rehearse from 9 until 9:50 PM when children will process back downstairs to hang costumes.

THE PAGEANT - 4:00 PM, Tuesday, Dec. 24
Children and youth should arrive at church between 3:15 and 3:30 PM to get into costume and warm-up for singing. Parents can go up to pews and save space for your children. Once in costume, the children will join you until the pageant begins, then after the pageant, they will rejoin you again for the balance of the worship service.

The worship service begins at 4 PM followed by refreshments. Invite friends and family to join everyone at St. Martin’s as our youngest members lead us up to the birth of our Savior.

Please bring a plate with cookies or some other treat, to add to the refreshments table. Last year this worked out well, with a variety of goodies that allowed the congregation to visit with the pageant performers immediately after the service.

It’s a good time to clean and donate new/gently used winter coats, hats and gloves. Items may be dropped off in the small Sunday School room for transport to CCI. Thank you!
