WELCOME TO OUR GUEST PREACHER, GRETEL WAKEHAM: Her ministry training took place within the Anglican Diocese of Rochester, neighboring Diocese to the historic Anglican home of Canterbury, which together form the county of Kent – colloquially known as “the Garden of England.” Recently she has taken up the position of teaching preaching within the diocese. Since 2003, Gretel has been a licensed Lay Minister, known as Lay Reader' and serves two semi-rural churches, a role that is both liturgical and pastoral. Her interests include the different strands of Christian spirituality and interfaith relations. She is married to a retired dentist and they have three children: an ordained Anglican priest, a theater director, and a charity worker.

A CANDLELIGHT SERVICE OF ADVENT LESSONS AND CAROLS: Sunday evening at 5 PM - A wonderful and meaningful way to usher in the season of Advent is through the service of Advent Lessons and Carols. This service, originally composed by The Very Reverend Eric Milner-White for use at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, proclaims in word and song the promise of God to redeem the world through the Advent of His Son. The metaphoric procession through the liturgy – from darkness into light – is intended to prepare the worshipper for the coming of the true Light, Jesus Christ. Please plan to join us and be a part of this beautiful liturgy to mark the closing of the day as we begin the Advent season and a new liturgical year.

HOLIDAY RECEPTION FOLLOWING ADVENT LESSONS & CAROLS: Plan now to attend one of the biggest parties of the year on Sunday, December 2. All are invited and encouraged to bring a friend to the Advent Lessons and Carols at 5 PM.
A Holiday Reception will follow in the Great Hall.
Please bring a dish to share with parishioners old and new!

ADVENT FAMILY NIGHT: Join us Sunday evening from 5 to 7 PM for Advent Family Night. This kickoff to the Advent season includes dinner and crafts. Make an Advent wreath to take home so you may light a candle each Sunday as we wait for the birth of Jesus. RSVP at

NAMETAGS: Please wear your nametags. If you cannot find your nametag, please write your name on the clipboard in the Wydown Narthex. A nametag will be waiting for you on the clipboard next week.
Did you know that Advent is Latin for “a coming or arrival” and it is the season of preparation for the birth of Jesus? We display an Advent wreath, a circular garland of evergreen branches as a symbol of eternity (with no beginning and no end) and unending love. Four candles are arranged on the wreath and one is lit on each Sunday during the season. Each of the Advent candles represents a spiritual readying for the celebration of Christmas and the coming of the light of Christ into the world. The blue candles signify the color of the night sky or the waters of the new creation. The first candle to be lit is the Prophecy candle, or the Candle of Hope. The second to be lit is called the Bethlehem Candle, or the Candle of the Way, reminding us of Mary and Joseph’s long journey and their faith in God’s plan for salvation. On the third Sunday, we light a rose-colored candle for Gaudete (Latin for “rejoice”) Sunday or Joy Sunday, also called the Shepherd’s Candle. The fourth candle is the Angel’s Candle or Candle of Peace; it reminds us that Jesus comes to bring peace and light to the world and to our hearts.

By now, you've heard the devastating news about Jan Torrisi-Mokwa. Jan was invaluable in enhancing the Women's Ministry at The Church of St. Michael & St. George, as well as founding the ECW Steering Council by lovingly guiding the group through a process that brought our value and mission statements to fruition. One of the ways that her memory will be honored is by establishing a fund to support the Women's Retreats that Jan so dearly loved. The money will be used to pay for retreat leaders as well as provide scholarships for attendees. If you would like to contribute, please make your check payable to CSMSG and note "JTM Women's Ministry Fund" in the memo. Please contact Laurie Brown at if you have any questions.
You can donate online to your favorite ministry by texting on your cell phone. This feature is provided by ACS, the church's data software. Download instructions.
