Waiting for God

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.

We are in a time of waiting. Waiting for Mary and Joseph to make it to Bethlehem. Waiting for Mary to give birth to the Christ child. Waiting for the shepherds to be surprised by and in awe of the heavenly host announcing the birth of the Christ child. Waiting for the three wise men to arrive from the East bearing gifts for the Christ child.

We are also waiting for the return of Christ, with hope.

But have you ever considered that God is waiting? I really had not until recently when I read one of the daily emails I receive from the Society of Saint John the Evangelist. For those of you who are unfamiliar with SSJE, it is an Episcopal religious order for men who live in a monastery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The monks send homilies Monday through Saturday.

This homily focused on the idea of God waiting for us. Imagine: God waiting for us. Waiting for each of us to realize that we are beloved children of God. Waiting for each of us to realize our worth. Waiting for each of us to understand that we are loved completely just as we are, warts and all. Waiting for each of us to accept the never ending, unlimited, and gracious love of God.

Waiting for us to share that love and message with others.

So while I wait for the Christ child to arrive and for him to return, I will also try to focus on the love of God for all of us and to share it with others.
