U P D A T E  !!!

Wow doesn't even come close to the enormous heart our Advent Family has!  So far, we have raised a little over $1,000 just from the Souper Bowl drive-thru this past Sunday!  With your outreach and support we are helping to feed our community.

Did you miss out on giving??  Well, collections will continue during the Chili Supper take-out on Saturday, February 13th from 4pm - 6pm and you may continue to use Online Giving or mail checks to the church.  Just be sure to put "Souper Bowl" in the memo line of checks or in the 'other special fund' field in OLG.  All donations go to support the Advent Food Pantry and our Little Free Pantry.

On February 20th our youth will participate in a virtual field trip to shop for food for the Advent Pantry.  Thank you for showing our youth how giving impacts the community we all serve!

Our Little Free Pantry has become immensely popular for both our neighbors in the College Downs neighborhood and for our members.  Sharon Thrower has agreed to be the Social Ministry Board lead person for our pantry.  If you have questions or ideas about the pantry, including donations and how to become more involved, feel free to contact her at  Our Little Free Pantry is located on Bonnie Lane in the side yard of the Wubben-Smith House.

And the first order has already come!  Thank you, Karen & Tim Taylor!!!
An Amazon Wish List has also been set up for those who would like to purchase items for the Little Free Pantry and our Advent Food Pantry.  Because of delivery issues at the church, it has been set up for the items to be shipped to Sharon Thrower's address; however you MUST select the shipping option that says "Sharon Thrower's Gift Registry Address".   Many items have been set up in the wish list and will be used to stock Advent's Pantry.  You may click on this link to take you directly to the page to order.

It's going to be a cold Saturday, and a great day for Chili.  Advent's annual "Mabel and June Porter Chili Dinner" fundraiser will be a drive-thru event with TAKE-OUT only of 32 ounces of the world's best Chili made by Pat Kelly and Patrick Kelly, along with delicious corn muffins.

Want to be sure you get enough chili and aren't left out? PREORDER BY THURSDAY!  Sign-Up Genius for orders:!/showSignUp/30E0F48A4AC23A75-2021.
If you cannot pick up on February 13, we can freeze your order for you. Not able to use Sign-Up Genius? Email with your order.  This Chili freezes well, so pick up enough to last the winter!

A free-will offering is accepted, and a suggested donation is $10 per quart container; however, please give what you can, whether more or less. Proceeds will support Second Harvest Food Bank and other hunger ministries in the Charlotte area.

Donations can be by check (made out to Advent with "chili dinner" in the memo line) or cash at the event. To donate before or after the dinner, mail your check to Advent at 8840 University City Blvd, 28213, again with "Chili Dinner" in the memo line. You can also donate online through the Advent website or the link to donate on this eNEWS. You will need to put "Chili Dinner" in the field for "other".

Chili Day is take-out only, and servers will deliver your chili to your car. Please enter from Mark Twain (beside the church), form two car lines to let volunteers know your order, make your donation and exit onto Sandburg (behind the church).

We hope to see you there!

Pastor Dick Little has invited our congregation to join with him and Dr. Deborah Conner in a program on Centering Prayer. Details on the program are below. Registration will close on February 12th to it is important for you to register asap if you are interested.
Centering Prayer is a method of consenting to God's presence and action within. It prepares us to receive God's gift of contemplative prayer, which is an opening of our hearts and minds to God beyond thoughts, words and emotions. This prayer practice, rooted in the Christian contemplative heritage, helps us embrace the process of transformation in Christ.
This program comes three days after Ash Wednesday and affords us the opportunity to enter into Lent in a new and deeper way. It is designed to share the method of Centering Prayer and offer support in making it a part of daily life. Part of the program, at no additional cost, are continuing sessions that are offered to help you establish and deepen a daily practice. More information will be provided after you register.
The program will be presented by The Reverend Dr. Deborah Conner and The Reverend Dr. Richard Little. Deborah is the Coordinator of Contemplative Outreach of Piedmont NC and the Pastor for Congregational Care at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Dr. Little is a retired Lutheran Pastor who last served as the Senior Pastor at Advent Lutheran Church. Both facilitate Weekly Centering Prayer Groups.

About "Love is the Way" ....
Walk the path of love with one of the warmest, most beloved spiritual leaders of our time, and learn how to put faith into action.
As the descendant of slaves and the son of a civil rights activist, Bishop Michael Curry's life illustrates massive changes in our times. Much of the world met Bishop Curry when he delivered his sermon on the redemptive power of love at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle. Here, he expands on his message of hope in an inspirational roadmap for living the way of love, illuminated with moving lessons from his own life, through the prism of his faith, ancestry, and personal journey,

Focusing on heart health has never been more important. People with poor cardiovascular health are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

Heart-healthy living involves understanding your risk, making choices, and taking steps to reduce your chances of getting heart disease, but by taking preventive measures, you can lower your risk of developing heart disease and also improve your overall health and well-being.

Here are a few things you can do:
· Get your blood pressure and cholesterol checked
· Choose heart-healthy foods
· Aim for a healthy weight
· Manage stress
· Quit smoking
