THANK YOU for attending Annual Meeting

We want to thank everyone who participated in the annual meeting on Sunday for a very productive and efficient time together. The annual report is still being edited and properly formatted. It will be published in next week's newsletter. We apologize for the delay.

PLEASE WELCOME: Matt Latchaw

Communications Director

This week we hired Matt Latchaw to serve as a part-time communications director. Matt will be keeping our social media and website presence current, and he will be overseeing this newsletter. More information on Matt and his family is forthcoming. Please be praying for him as he transitions into this new role. If you would like a little window into a little "slice" of Matt's life, you can check out this trailer to a documentary that Matt is in (Note: he is not the featured person in the film). Here's a link to the whole documentary, but it does ask for a donation to watch the whole thing. However, I have already made a donation on behalf of Advent, so feel free to check the box that says, "see the film without donating."

CLASS ON CANDLEMAS: The Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Celebrated on February 2

As part of my diocesan role, I have created a short class on Candlemas to help you celebrate the sacred story and mystery of The Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple on February 2. This class will help you learn more about Candlemas, celebrate it with prayers and songs, and tell the story of how Candlemas spun off the secular holiday, Ground Hog's Day. I hope you will find it helpful. Please note, you will have to register for the site, but it is free. Once you have registered, you will notice that there are many classes on a variety of topics available for you to enjoy and from which to learn.

JASON'S REFLECTIONS

on Sunday's New Testament Reading

The NT reading today is long, so here's a link to the reading: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13. If it's okay with you, I 'm going to take a week off from writing the reflection. If you want to learn more about the religio-historical context behind this verse, I recommend that you read Paula Fredriksen's book When Christians were Jews: The First Generation.

I will say this about the passage: St. Paul has some true insight on the often underestimated power of food to both divide and bring people together. I think we should keep talking about that as we continue to listen to what the Spirit is saying to us at Advent.
