JASON'S REFLECTIONS
An old friend of mine Megan Strasser just opened up her second shop here in Walnut Hills this week. The store is called Fern, and while it ostensibly is all about selling plants, it's self-professed purpose is about "bridging design and nature." I point out Megan's foray into selling plants in Walnut Hills for a few reasons; namely, because our new communication director's wife Lyric Latchaw painted a beautiful mural on a wall inside the shop, and I wanted to find a way to show off her work; but also because it, for some reason, reminds me of something that I read in this week's excerpt from St. Paul's letter to the Corinthians.
I think--although, I really should call Megan and ask her directly--that for all intents and purposes bridging design and nature is not just about decorating our homes and other indoor spaces because they naturally provide us with vibrant colors and clean air but because they remind us of our inherent connection not only to nature, but also to one another--and, I think, to God, as well.
Today, St. Paul seems to making the case that gospel (the good news of God's love), like plants, can be brought into any home and any space--and any heart--and bridge the disconnect not only between us and God, but also us with one another; and, I think, it can do the same for our relationship with the earth.
Amen.
