Vestry Class of 2018 Elected at Annual Meeting. At the December 10 Annual Meeting of the Parish, Marcus Clarke, Ellison Clary, Mike Hoffman, and Mary Lynn Sepkowitz were elected for a 2018-2020 Vestry term. Following the December 19 Vestry Meeting and January 5-6 Vestry Retreat, they will assume their responsibilities. Christmas Honoraria and Memorials Benefit Church Decorations and Special Music. If you would like to honor or memorialize loved ones by offering a donation for Christmas greenery, decorations, or special music, including guest instrumentalists, the deadline to print acknowledgements is noon on Monday, December 18. You may donate online , mail donations with acknowledgements to Parish Administrator, Leigh Dixon, 115 West Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28202, or use a "Christmas Contribution" envelope available at St. Peter's.

2018 Annual Fund Update. On Tuesday, December 12, the Parish Treasurer reported that 266 pledges totaling $856,180 had been received toward  Giving with Gratitude: Support Life at St. Peter's. The Treasurer's Report at the Annual Meeting summarized our 2017 financial stewardship and provided a 2018 operating budget draft. 100% participation from all member households will make our 2018 goal a reality. Year-end Contributions. All pledges and financial contributions for the 2017 fiscal year must be received in the Financial Administration Office by Sunday, December 31, in order to receive credit for 2017. Worship and Music

Sunday Evenings at St. Peter's, December 17. On December 17, a TaizĂ© Holy Eucharist will be offered at 5:00 p.m. in addition to weekly morning services offered at 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.  Learn more about Sunday Evenings at St. Peter's here and  learn more about our complete worship schedule here.

Center City Concerts presents The Burli Singers, Monday, December 18. Conducted by parishioner Rob Burlington, this ensemble will offer a free holiday concert at Noon featuring the glorious "Ceremony of Carols" by Benjamin Britten.  Learn more about Center City Concerts here.

Children's Christmas Pageant and Preparation. Our pageant will be offered as the Liturgy of the Word for the 4:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist on Christmas Eve. All children are invited to join the cast of this annual tradition, and parent volunteers are needed. Rehearsals are Saturday, December 16, 9:00-11:00 a.m., for costume and script distribution, and again on Sunday, December 24, 2:30 p.m. until the beginning of the service. One does not have to attend the first rehearsal in order to participate; a variety of costumes will be available or you may choose to provide your own.  Learn more and sign up for all roles here. Service of the Longest Night, December 21. St. Peter's will offer a Service of the Longest Night, also known as a "Blue Christmas" liturgy, on Thursday, December 21, 6:00 p.m. All are invited to attend this Holy Eucharist with hymns and music for piano as an intentional time of remembering and celebrating the lives of loved ones no longer present physically in our households and communities for holiday gatherings.

Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 24. This year, because the Fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve fall on the same day, there will be one morning service at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent before the afternoon transition to the Christmas liturgies.

Christmas Services at St. Peter's, December 24-25. Christmas Eve services: 4:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist with Pageant; 7:00 p.m. Holy Eucharist (6:45 p.m. Choral Prelude); 10:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist (10:00 p.m. Choral Prelude); Christmas Day Holy Eucharist, 10:00 a.m. Nursery available for 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. services, and parking valet available for 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.

Morning Prayer Schedule, December 25-29. When the Parish House and Offices are closed December 25-27, our customary weekday service of Morning Prayer will be, 8:00-8:30 a.m. in the Chapel.
Learning

Advent Resources for Individuals and Households. In the "waiting" season of Advent, Christians are encouraged to slow down and even be countercultural. Some resources will be available in the Parish Lobby, and the Clergy recommend exploration of an assortment:  ECF Advent Devotional CalendarSSJE #AdventWordEpiscopal Relief & Development Gifts for Life Calendar; and  Preparing to Become the Beloved Community Meditation.

Sunday Formation for Adults, December 17, 9:30 a.m.  All adults are invited to the Parish Hall Forum, "Praying Through the 12 Days of Christmas," a time of reflection and conversation with parish lay leaders and the Clergy.

Monday Evenings in Advent: December 11 and 18. The Clergy will facilitate a study of the "Advent Gospels and the Significance of the Blessed Virgin Mary," 6:15-7:15 p.m. at St. Peter's.  Learn more and register here.
Community Life 

Advent Tree for Supportive Housing Communities. The Advent Tree in the Parish House lobby is designated to collect specific personal items for residents of McCreesh Place. All are invited to take an ornament, purchase items, and place the gifts and ornament under the tree before Friday, December 15. Christmas stockings will be prepared by the Youth Pilgrim Class.

Greening of the Church, December 23-24. In preparation for Christmas at St. Peter's, the Altar and Flower Guilds look to extra helping hands to decorate parish buildings and grounds for the season. Duties are available for adults, youth, and older children. Annual Youth Advent Fair: December 17. Prepare for the season by purchasing assorted holiday items at St. Peter's to benefit our next youth pilgrimage. Advent candles and wreaths, Christmas ornaments, Anglican prayer beads, St. Peter's recycled glass ornaments, "Chico" reusable grocery bags, St. Peter's long and short-sleeve t-shirts, and AutoBell tickets will be available.

Senior Class Luncheon: Third Tuesdays. The next monthly luncheon for this 55+ fellowship group will be on Tuesday, December 19, 11:30 a.m. at  Carolina Prime Steakhouse located at 225 E. St. Peter's Welcomes Garrett Law, Assistant Organist and Choirmaster. On October 16, The Reverend Ollie V. Rencher, Rector, announced the appointment of Garrett Law by Director of Music and Organist, Elizabeth Lenti. Garrett will join the Clergy-Staff team in May, 2018 and will also serve as Assistant Director of The Choir School at St. Peter's.   Learn more here about this exciting news for the Parish and The Choir School.

Parish House and Offices Holiday Schedule. Monday-Wednesday, December 25-27, and Monday, January 1, the Parish House and Offices will be closed. For pastoral or hospital emergencies concerning parishioners, contact the Clergy On Call at 704-749-6175.

Chronic Care Support Group: First Fridays. The next gathering of this first-Friday group will be January 5, 11:00 a.m. in the Parlor. The Reverend Keith Lane and others facilitate this fellowship for persons with chronic illnesses of any sort and caregivers alike. Contact Father Keith Lane ( klane@st-peters.org, 704-332-7746 x355).
Outreach and Social Justice

Room in the Inn hosted at St. Peter's. On each Wednesday evening from December 6 through March, St. Peter's participates in Room in the Inn (RITI) by providing a warm, welcoming place where twelve neighbors can share a meal and sleep in our Parish Hall. Affordable Housing Crisis Forum, December 21. MeckMin will host its next "Food for Thought" program entitled "No Room at the Inn: A Forum on Charlotte's Affordable Housing Crisis" on Thursday, December 21, 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Dilworth.
