Advent Wreath Making Event

Sunday, December 2nd after the 10:30 Mass - Egan Hall

Join us for our 7th Annual Advent Wreath Making Event.  We will provide all the supplies to make a wreath for your family. There will be treats, hot cider and Christmas music to warm you up and a few small crafts for the younger kids. A $10 good will donation will help cover our costs.

Does your high school student need service hours?  We need lots of volunteers to make this a great event.  Contact Mary Wiseman (or just show up) if you can help.  mwiseman@stjohnsea.org
Scrip will be available this Sunday, December 2nd in Egan Hall.
St John Parish Advent & Christmas Schedule

poinsettias.jpg
Poinsettias for Our Christmas Altar
Look for envelopes in the pews this weekend to donate a poinsettia in honor or memory of someone dear to you.
The plants will decorate the altar this Christmas season.

Advent Giving Tree
Look for the Advent Giving Tree in the back of the church this month.  Take an ornament from the Giving Tree and return that item unwrapped and place it under the tree by  Monday, December 17th .
Thank you so much for your generosity in making this a wonderful Christmas for the homeless in our community.
This year your donations will be supporting
Noel House, St Martin de Porres and Treehouse.
Do you have any extra metal coat hangers piling up at your house? A friend of the parish uses them to make the beautiful Christmas wreaths that hang at the ends of our pews during the Christmas season. Bring them to the parish office and we will pass them along. Thank you!
Can you help ONE TIME  with coffee & donuts this year?
We need some help with this vital ministry - the only place where
parishioners can meet up and socialize on a regular basis.
If you would be willing to run or help run C&D one time this year, please email Kristin Kent at kkent@stjohnsea.org    Thank you!!

"Prayer life / Spiritual life: What works for you?"
The second discussion in our 4-part series is on Thursday, December 6 at 7:00 pm in the parish admin building. Please join us to hear 3 parishioners speak for 10 minutes or so on some aspect of their prayer lives. Wine and a free book will be part of this entertaining, informative night of learning and sharing.

Prayer Groups : Are you looking for a faith-sharing group for the 4 weeks of advent? Please email Kristin Kent at kkent@stjohnsea.org ASAP!

ST. JOHN SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSICAL!!!!

AUDITIONS:
Monday, December 10, 3:15-5:30pm
Tuesday, December 11, 3:15-5:30pm
Wednesday, December 12, 3:15-5:30pm

(Students will sign up for ONE 5-minute audition spot on one of those days. The sign-up sheet will be posted this week on the 3rd floor bulletin board.)

Informational Meetings were held last week. If your student missed the meeting, students can pick up the handouts and the music CD in Mrs. Halley's classroom, or you may contact Mrs. Katie Franklin, the Director at catherinfranklin@comcast.net

Also, Mrs. Franklin is looking for a Stage Manager (or two students to be co-Stage Managers). This person(s) would need to attend rehearsals and would run the show during performances. A great resume-builder!!

Sean and Laura came home for Thanksgiving, and Sean brought his girlfriend Natalie.  For three days, our home was full again, as it was for many years, our immediate family all in one place.  On Thanksgiving Day, my brother and his family came over, too, and for several hours our small house was joyfully over-full.  Laura led our prayer of thanksgiving before the big meal, beginning with a reading of Psalm 100.  It's one you would recognize, "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth..."

I know that Thanksgiving is now "so last week".  Before that thankful mindset is completely gone, I have a last Thanksgiving treat for you.  Google "A real-life miracle at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" and read the short article (https://aleteia.org/2018/11/22/a-real-life-miracle-at-the-macys-thanksgiving-day-parade/).  It made my girls cry, and me too, honestly.  You'll enjoy it.

If you have nuggets you'd like to share, email Bill Marty, bill@prayernuggets.org.  Thanks!
