The Second Sunday of Easter
April 19
10:30 a.m. Streaming Live Online
In today's gospel the risen Christ appears to the disciples and offers them the gift of peace. Even amid doubts and questions, we experience the resurrection in our Sunday gathering around word and meal, and in our everyday lives. Throughout the coming Sundays of Easter the first two readings will be from the Acts of the Apostles and the first letter of Peter. Even as the early Christians proclaimed the resurrection, we rejoice in the new birth and living hope we receive in baptism.

A Letter from the President of the Congregation
To the members of AdventELC
April 16, 2020

Dear friends in Christ,

As you all know, these are extreme and difficult times that we have been living through for the past several weeks. Pastor Aaron, Jean Pontious and Caden Layne have worked very hard to give us the live streaming video services, and by doing so, they have given us a connection to our Church, even when the doors have been locked. I know I speak for the entire congregation in expressing our thanks to Jean, Caden, Pastor Aaron and all others who have brought Advent’s live streaming video into our homes.

Even though the church has been off limits to all of us, it is critical to realize that the day to day expenses continue. Any given month our expenses average about $28,000.00. This include employee payroll, security, fire protection, electric and gas utilities, phones, computers and our mortgage.

Many in our Congregation write checks and place them into the collection plate when attending services. Obviously, with the Church being closed, collections are down. For those of us who give when attending, there are several methods of getting your donations to Advent every week. Checks may be mailed to Advent Lutheran Church, 3660 Kenny Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43220. Donations may also be made through our website, where you can contribute online ( ).

I understand some of our congregation may have lost their income. We all pray that you are employed again very soon. For those of us who have not experienced financial hardship, I am asking that you prayerfully consider adding to your normal giving. Unfortunately, the Church’s bills do not stop, and for that reason I am asking for your continued support.

Please understand that I find absolutely no pleasure in asking any of you to contribute even more than what you already give. But these are strange and uncertain times, and Advent Lutheran Church needs your help. Please pray about this, and if you are able, consider doing whatever you can to help our Church.

May the Peace of God be with all of us.

See Christ Clearly in 2020
AdventELC's theme for the year is: See Christ Clearly in 2020 . We look to direct our attention and energy in two ways: seeing Christ clearly personally and showing Christ clearly to the world.
Share THE Story
This is a moment in time that it is REALLY important that YOU share the story of Jesus and His love! Please SHARE via email, talking, texting, and social media the opportunity to worship with us during Holy Week with everyone you know!

This is a moment in time when we look to see Christ clearly and make Christ clearly seen.
Another Way to Help!!!
From your Social Concerns Team! Pastor Aaron was contacted by the Director of Nursing for the company that helps manage the Mill Run Care Center in Hilliard. She explained that the facility has experienced COVID positive cases and, because of that, the vending machine company no longer services the facility. Snacks and sodas are a favorite of both residents and staff and a treat that they cannot get routinely right now. She asked if our congregation would be willing to support the residents and staff by sending pre-packaged snacks and drinks to the facility to brighten their day, as it has been a very difficult experience for them all.
These are the specific items requested:
(1) As for snacks, individually packaged items are best - - such as variety chip packets, Nutri-grain bars, peanut butter crackers in individual packages, and individually wrapped candy. (Please note: there is a lot of Easter candy on sale right now!)
(2) For drinks, they enjoy bottled water, Gatorade, and Coke products.
What a wonderful way for the Advent community to support both the residents and those essential employees who continue to serve them!
Our first donation drive will be this coming week. The collection point will be Jennifer Parker’s garage (at 1721 Arlingate Dr. N, Upper Arlington, 43220 - - only 5 minutes from the church). Please bring the donated items anytime on Tuesday, April 21st, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. They can be placed inside the garage - - no personal contact necessary!
If you have any questions, reach out to Jennifer Parker at 614-451-5693 or
Our High School youth group members have been making phone calls to members of the congregation to check in on them, as we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
