Sunday, January 22nd

Rival Gods

This week we are presented with another snapshot of the early church, highlighting how the Holy Spirit continued to work through them and their faithful obedience. As we view these snapshots our hearts can begin to desire the success that this early church experienced. Success is a rival god that continues to plague humanity both inside and outside of the church. How do we celebrate what God has done, what He is doing, without succumbing to worshipping the fruit we see instead of the God who orchestrates the fruit?

Daily Prayers, a Digging Deeper guide and coordinating Life Group Curriculum will be available each week on Sunday to further explore this Sermon Series. You can find those resources (and for all of our other sermon series) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday.

Don't forget, you can now sign up to receive a notification each morning that will take you right to the Daily Prayer, the scripture that goes with it, and a prompt for interaction. All you have to do is head to your settings in the app, find the notification settings, and toggle on the “Daily Prayer” group. Instruction Video and information on a tech class coming next week!

We can't wait to see you for Worship on Sunday!

Service at 10:00am

Worship Center & Online

For the time being we are transitioning to the Friendship Center only being open on the first Sundays of the month. If you prefer to worship at the church in a more openly spaced area, we invite you to join us in the Cafe starting at 10:10am on Sundays. We ask that the rest of the congregation please respect this as a reserved worship venue for those wanting more physical distance after worship starts each Sunday. The Cafe will open back up for coffee, the outreach store, and space to fellowship after service ends.

As our congregation grows please remember to move to the center of the rows in the Worship Center and leave the aisle seating open for additional people and/or larger families.

If you or someone you know is NEW to Adventure, please stop by the Welcome Center to pick up a Welcome bag!

Services stream live to three places: our website, our app, and YouTube!

Need help with accessing our livestream? Check out this instruction video or email Sam.

Adventure:Kids News

We are so glad to have your kids in 5th grade and below join us for Adventure:Kids this Sunday! In Adventure:Kids our kids are learning that idolatry is when we love and value something else above God. As we grow closer to God and pursue a relationship with Him, the desires of our heart can be more aligned with what is above. This Sunday the kids will be reading the story of Elisha in 2 Kings 2. Elisha desired a spirit like that of Elijah, in order to carry out his mission as a prophet.

Our Key Passage is: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:4-5. We'd love to have you work with your child on memorizing this verse at home!

Registering your child ahead of time helps us to make sure that we have enough support for our classes. Thank you so much for doing this! Click HERE to register. Drop off begins at 9:50am!

We can't wait to see you this Sunday!

Sermon notes and challenges for families are available on the Adventure: Kids Facebook page,

Deanie wanted to say thank you to all who came to her 90th birthday part last weekend. She is feeling so grateful and blessed by the outpouring of love she received, thank you!

Congregational Gathering & Dessert Potluck

Sunday, January 29th at 5:30pm

This is both a business and family meeting where we desire to celebrate all God has done in 2022 in and through Adventure, as well as prepare for all He will do in and through Adventure in 2023 and beyond!

Bring your own dinner to eat and fellowship at 5:30 and then the meeting & dessert potluck kicks off at 6pm. We'll be ordaining and installing new Elders and Deacons, celebrating 2022, talking about what is in store for 2023 and more!

While there are some business aspects of this meeting that only our Covenant Partners will be able to participate in, we welcome all who are becoming invested here at Adventure to join us as we dig into who we are here at Adventure and where God is leading us forward. Kids are welcome!

Monthly Session Update

Session met at our regular meeting time to start out the year. All of the Nominated Elders and Deacons were also invited. It is part of the responsibility of Session to approve the nominees before the annual meeting. During this time, each of the nominees were invited to share a little about their journey of faith and also to discuss if there was a particular area in which they were feeling led to ministry as an Elder or Deacon. There was also time for general discussion and questions.

The Nominated Elders attended for the whole meeting, as they were invited to do last month, and they will be ready to step into their roles over the next couple months.

Pastor CJ introduced a some new things for 2023, including an ongoing Flourishing Leaders Training, which Session will continue with at every meeting this year, and an online reporting system that will allow Session members to stay current across all the ministry areas of Adventure of Faith. He has also organized some of the Session roles and responsibilities to be a little more intuitive. Pastor CJ also shared the yearly calendar so that each member of Session would understand what specific goals are addressed each monthly meeting.

Pastor CJ asked Session for feedback on Advent. Several Elders shared that they were pleased with the level of engagement they experienced and observed. Advent Boxes and the ability to continue to gather on Wednesday evenings in the Friendship Center were particularly mentioned. There was also positive feedback on the message of Biblical Generosity and the general consensus that it was received well.

Elder Chris Kramer presented our Annual Meeting plan. The meeting will occur on Sunday, January 29th with a “bring your own” dinner time from 5:30-6pm and the meeting starting at 6pm. About midway through the meeting, there will be a dessert potluck and the meeting is expected to close around 8pm.

After some discussion and a review of the financial reports for December, Session approved the 2023 Budget with special thanks to Financial Administrator Leslie Fetters for her hard work. Session also discussed some of the upcoming “big expenses” anticipated over the next few years, namely addressing our antiquated heating system and the wear and tear on our parking lot. Additionally, Session again discussed that our financial balance in 2022 was reflective of Staff being as frugal as possible to accommodate the general decline in giving.

All of the Nominated Elders present were approved for Ordination and/or Installation at the Annual meeting and outgoing Elders Greg Fund, Don VanDoornik, and Patricia Holmes were thanked for their time of service on Session.

Saturday, February 11th from 4:30-7:30

At Adventure of Faith, we value marriages and want to allow some time for parents of young kids to connect with their spouse. Date Night is an event that will allow for parents to get out for a date, and will include some resources to help guide conversation, plan where to go, and assist in ensuring that they can do it again in the future! Our team of volunteers will have a fun night planned for your kids, ages birth through 5th grade.

This is a free event.

This section is a weekly reminder that God is Good!
He is good to us every single day & we will praise His name!

One of the absolute joys we have on the worship team is listening to new music and introducing it to the congregation. We listen for themes that we are focusing on in the sermon series, and lyrics straight from scripture that point to our Lord. Take a listen to this new song we'll be introducing in a couple of weeks and see if you can identify what section of scripture we loved in it. GOD IS GOOD!

This space in the newsletter is a small way we continue to celebrate the goodness of God all year long, and practice being aware of His presence in our lives. So, if you have stories of God's goodness big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.

To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:

What Good have you witnessed recently?

What Good has God brought into your life?

What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?

God is Good!!
