Summer Sabbath: Introduction
Pastor CJ Young
"After 15 weeks on The Fellowship, this week we kick off our annual Summer Sabbath series. Each August, we take one month as a church to Sabbath from our typical rhythms of church life. We press pause on our 30-year sermon series through the book of Acts and reorient our hearts and minds on the Lord through rest in Him. We pare down our worship services, various ministries, meetings, and events to create space for our church family to rest, reorient, and refocus on the Lord. It isn’t about merely taking a break; it’s about trusting in the Lord. It’s about celebrating Him, who He is, and what He’s done. It is an opportunity to remind ourselves that He is in control, and it is our greatest desire and greatest joy is to submit to Him and His Lordship in our lives."
Summer Sabbath is from August 1st through September 10th. Find out more about why and how Adventure is doing Summer Sabbath HERE.
For Summer Sabbath there are Daily Prayer Prompts and a Summer Sabbath Journal available to further explore this topic. You can find those resources (and for all of our other sermon series) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday.

Adventure:Kids
First Sunday of the Month News
We have loved having our kids in kindergarten and up join us in service on the first Sunday of the month!
As we've practiced better welcoming and celebrating our kids in service the last few months, we will be continuing to ask them to come forward to worship in front of the stage in the Worship Center during the music portion of our service. We will also be continuing our short kids message that ties in with concepts from the sermon they can grasp onto while listening to the sermon. Coming up to the front is not required, as we know some kids feel most comfortable being with their parents, but the option will be given this Sunday. We value all parts of our church body worshipping and learning alongside one another and we can't wait to do this on Sunday!
Adventure:Kids classes will still be open for nursery through preschool aged. Please preregister your kids HERE
We can't wait to see you this Sunday!

Monthly Session Update
June & July 2022 Session Report
June and July are months when Session tries to cast vision for longer term goals as well as using the time to set goals for the near future. This means that each Session meeting has a time for members to discuss and reflect on who we are now and where God seems to be leading us. It is difficult to share these discussions other than to say that, after them, we often see application in several areas as we go forward as different themes and topics become our focus.
The result of these past two months of discussion, as well as time spent in retreat last March, are the beginning of our two Session Goals for this year. The first relates to a need to codify our corporate operations and the second relates to having a path to Covenant Partnership in place. Teams from Session are already working with staff to achieve these goals.
The Nominating Committee has started its work a little early this year as there is a vacancy on both Session and the Deacon Board. Please keep in prayer that God will provide the people He is preparing for these important roles. It was the consensus that a vote by the congregation will be scheduled when candidates have been found for both positions.
Session has approved the Worship Team to assuming responsibilities for organizing communion going forward. As a way to honor and celebrate Summer Sabbath, and to help reestablish how our congregation serves and partakes communion, the Worship Team will serve communion every Sunday in August. Session has also enthusiastically approved funds for attendance at the Christian Music Summit in Tacoma this November. These funds will pay for Sam, Andrea, and Leah with a small Worship & Tech team to learn and grow in this ministry.
Session was also informed that the Preschool will be seeking to fill the director position and a teacher positions. The Session Finance team is also working on the Preschool financial projections, which is always difficult since the minimum wage may be increased and it is difficult to plan without those numbers in advance.
Elder Candice Brady has asked that the Transition Team, including Elder Chris Kramer, remain in place to help Sam Wilkinson coordinate a series of coffee chats with the congregation as Session continues to seek ways to include the whole congregation in our ongoing discussions.

If you're interested in current church finances,
see our June graphic included above here.
Adventure of Faith is a very generous community of believers. I know this because whenever we communicate a need, we meet it.
"Joe" lost his job, his family needs some financial support. Done.
"Mary" lost her husband & is struggling in her grief. Done.
The youth need some summer camp scholarships. Done.
VBS needs some volunteers to serve our youngest. Done.
Time to tackle some big, building upgrade projects. Done.
It is a wonderful feeling to meet an urgent, specific need. But the reality is that many of our church's expenses are kind of boring and may not feel like we're bringing more into faith.
As the Financial Administrator, I see all the money that comes in and goes out. I rejoice as we are able to meet all the needs that we are called to meet. But it is exactly because of Adventure's generosity that I'm hesitant to ever say "we are in need."
So far in 2022, our income has been short of our expenses. That's a fact.
Are we in dire straits? No. I'm dedicated to advising church leadership of that way before then.
But just like in your own home, you're seeing the price of everything going up. It's the same with our church expenses. So while this isn't a "need" like the examples above, it is something that may be important to consider as we move forward this year.
Next week, I will be highlighting another submitted question (and answer) about Adventure of Faith's finances. Believe me when I say that there is no question that is too silly, too simple, too embarrassing or too scary to ask. I will do my best to be both transparent and authentic in my answers.
Thank you for your interest in learning and doing challenging things with me.
At Adventure of Faith Church, we strive to be both transparent and authentic. This includes how we handle the treasure you entrust us with. We are so grateful for your joyful and generous hearts.

Senegal Store
Sundays before & after Service
Cattle and Sheep and Goats, Oh My!
These are the animals we see in Senegal. In fact, roving cattle were one of the reasons that Adventure of Faith raised funds to build a wall around the village school in Sorokogne. West African sheep & goats look alike--no wool on sheep in such a hot climate! Instead they just have hair. And how do we tell them apart? Look at the tails...up for goats, down for sheep.

This section is a weekly reminder that God is Good!
He is good to us every single day & we will praise His name!
|
|
We were going to share about the BaseCamp Hangout this past week, as it was a great way to practice just resting and enjoying each other during this first week of our Summer Sabbath. And while some of our staff was talking about this we realized nobody took any photos to share. This was actually a reminder to us of the blessing of being so present with those at this event that we weren't attached to our phones. Thank you to all who attended and were present alongside us on this beautiful summer evening.

If you have stories of God's goodness from this past year, big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.
To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:
What Good have you witnessed recently?
What Good has God brought into your life?
What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?
