Count It All Joy Sermon Series

“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.” -Henri Nouwen

As we kick off both Advent and our journey through the Book of James, we begin with the call to Joy. James says that we should “Count it all joy when we meet trials of various kinds.” Through his words, the Spirit reminds us that our joy is not rooted in the temporal things of this world, but in the eternal person of our Savior. Join us this month as we take time to count it all joy during this Advent season.

Sunday, December 1st:

Joy in Trials

“Joy is the serious business of Heaven.”

-C.S. Lewis

Right out of the gate, James gives a command to his brothers and sisters in Christ, calling them to count it all joy when they see trials of various kinds. Trials in this life are an expectation, but joy is a choice we choose as we refocus and reorient our heart and mind on Christ. During this Christmas season, many of us are experiencing a trial of one form or another, even in these difficult circumstances, may we count it as joy.

Daily Prayers, Digging Deeper Guide and coordinating Life Group Curriculum are available each week on Sunday to further explore this Sermon Series. You can find those resources (for this week and ALL previous weeks) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday.

Advent Specific Resources:

Take-Home Advent Calendars

Available Now! Calendar starts Dec 1st

In the spirit of creating space to lean into Jesus and trying to count it all joy in the everyday, we will be offering Advent Calendars to take home and do on your own or with those in your household. Every day there is a square to open and a small prompt, activity, item, or treat to spur reflection or joy.

TIPS:

  • Start with number 1 on Day 1, Christmas Day will be number 25 (hint: you have to search for each number)
  • PLEASE handle these calendars gently, and they will probably do best staying flat... they are hand-packed with love by us (not professionally done).
  • If you have any questions or issues with your boxes, please email sam@faithadventure.com

A Candle Lighting Devotional is available now if you have decided to do an Advent Wreath at home and would like to use this resource to accompany your weekly candle lightings.

This section is a weekly reminder that God is Good!

He is good to us every single day & we will praise His name!

This Week's God is Good is shared from Genevieve, one of our Deacons:

On Saturday, we were able to provide baskets for 40 families! Within the large order of food items the store had pulled, two items were missing, and so we sent the truck ahead to be unloaded at the church. By the time I had arrived, the unloading from the truck to the Friendship Center tables was just about complete, and there were so many people there. It was a beautiful scene of the people being the hands, the feet, and the heart of God, providing for and loving on some of our church families, as well as some in our community. It was also a gift to later watch the children building castles with the boxes. I believe they will remember experiencing church in such a fun and giving way. Thank you to all who contributed to the Thanksgiving Food Baskets!

God is Good!

This space in the newsletter is a small way we continue to celebrate the goodness of God all year long, and practice being aware of His presence in our lives. So, if you have stories of God's goodness big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.

To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:

What Good have you witnessed recently?

What Good has God brought into your life?

What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?

God is Good!!
