Faith Works Sermon Series
For James, faith works. Our faith is not merely an intellectual or emotional endeavor but one that involves movement and practice. Lent is a season of reflection and spiritual experience. During Lent, historically, we practice spiritual disciplines that focus us on Christ that they might develop us into becoming more like Christ.
For Lent this year, we want to reorient our hearts and minds on Jesus by taking a note from James in developing a faith that works.
Sunday, April 13, Palm Sunday: Mindful/Missional
When we think of mission, we think of dusty foreign lands and far off places with people and cultures that are different than ours. When we think of missionaries, we think of a special, particular calling for a particular type of person, but in the New Testament, Jesus’ view is that every follower of Him would be a missionary in their own particular context. The Lord has placed each one of us in the place where we are that we might bring the Gospel of the Kingdom to bear in the places where we are. We begin this process of being missional by starting to be mindful of the people around us. Being mindful as we live missionally is a way of working faith that reorients our lives and allows space for the Spirit to turn us into every-day missionaries in our particular mission fields.
| | Daily Prayers, Digging Deeper Guide and coordinating Life Group Curriculum are available each week on Sunday to further explore this Sermon Series. You can find those resources (for this week and ALL previous weeks) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday. | |
Grab a Week 6 Popcorn Invitation Packet!
And don't forget to bring your Weekly Wondering Reflections to pin to the Wonder Wall!
This Wonder Wall will remain up until after Easter, so as you continue your reflections, you still have the opportunity to add them to the wall, and check out and pray for other responses. We also have egg recycling set up so that we can potentially use the cartons and eggs again in the future (this isn't required but we appreciate your participation!)

Key Passage: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
- 2 Chronicles 7:14
We can't wait to see you this Sunday!

Holy Week
Sunday, April 13th - Sunday, April 20th
Please consider coming to any or all of these services and experiences and inviting friends, neighbors, and family to join us. We can’t wait to reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus in all the ways the focus of this holy week call us to. Join us in praying expectantly for the ways God will draw us to himself through these opportunities.
Palm Sunday Service - Sunday, April 13th at 10:00am
Palm Sunday is the day we celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem as he was greeted with the waving of palm branches amidst shouts of "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (John 12:13). Our Adventure Kids will participate in a palm branch procession and songs during service.
Maundy Thursday Dinner Service - Thursday, April 17th at 6:00pm
“Maundy” stems from a Latin word meaning commandment and correlates to the evening Jesus washed the disciples feet and celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples. Join us for an experiential service, including optional foot washing stations, dinner, scripture readings following the night, and participatory communion as we focus on Jesus' command to love one another. Kids are welcome and there are some interactive pieces for them, however it is aimed at being a more reflective service. There will be an at-home version of this service for those that want to join us a different way! If you can give us a heads up that you are planning to attend Maundy Thursday Dinner Service we'd love a rough headcount for planning, CLICK HERE TO LET US KNOW, but also, if you decide to join us last minute, please do!
Good Friday Experience -
Friday, April 18th from 4:00pm-7:00pm & after Good Friday Service
This is the day we commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
Our Good Friday is focused on Jesus's last Steps toward the Cross. Join us if you'd like to explore, experience, and reflect more fully on the importance of this night and on the suffering of Christ as we journey with him to the cross. There are interactive elements and reflective prompts to walk through on your own, with a friend, or with your family. This is a great opportunity for kids to participate... help them experience this and explain the parts as you go! This experience will be held in the Friendship Center, and there will be booklets and clear signage to help you navigate each step of the way. Expect this experience to take about 30-45 minutes, and you are welcome to do it at any point in the three hours it is open, or after the Good Friday service.
Good Friday Service - Friday, April 18th at 7:00pm
This is the day we commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
Join us for this reflective service as we travel from the Garden to the Cross. This service includes an experiential aspect of lights dimming, and opportunities for kids to engage as we progress throughout the night.
This service will be broadcast live, but due to the participatory nature of this service, and the lights dimming as the service progresses, our livestream will be simple and likely more listening along than watching at times. Kids are welcome at this service, and we have intentional ways for them to participate with us as the lights dim.
Easter Sunday Services - Sunday, April 20th at 9:00am & 11:00am
Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
Praise the Lord, He Is Risen!
Join us in praise and worship on this very Holy Day! We will be concluding our Lenten series talking about how James’ belief that faith works is because faith actually works! What Jesus said He accomplished in his life, death, and resurrection actually was accomplished, and now we live life in light of this reality that our sin is forgiven, our eternity is secure, our Messiah is King, and His Kingdom reigns! Praise be to God!

We will be meeting in the long side area. RSVP by April 14th at 3:00pm. We'd love for you to join us! To RSVP or ask questions: Text/call 360-443-2206, or email Marilyn.

A Prayer for Holy Week by Henri J.M. Nouwen
"Dear Lord, your disciple Peter wanted to know who would betray you. You pointed to Judas but a little later also to him. Judas betrayed, Peter denied you. Judas hanged himself, Peter became the apostle whom you made the first among equals. Lord, give me faith, faith in your endless mercy, your boundless forgiveness, your unfathomable goodness. Let me not be tempted to think that my sins are too great to be forgiven, too abominable to be touched by your mercy. Let me never run away from you but return to you again and again, asking you to be my Lord, my Shepherd, my Stronghold, and my Refuge. Take me under your wing, O Lord, and let me know that you do not reject me as long as I keep asking you to forgive me. Perhaps my doubt in your forgiveness is a greater sin than the sins I consider too great to be forgiven. Perhaps I make myself too important, too great when I think that I cannot be embraced by you anymore. Lord, look at me, accept my prayer as you accepted Peter’s prayer, and let me not run away from you in the night as Judas did.
Bless me, Lord, in this Holy Week, and give me the grace to know your loving presence more intimately. Amen."

This space in the newsletter is a small way we continue to celebrate the goodness of God all year long, and practice being aware of His presence in our lives. So, if you have stories of God's goodness big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.
To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:
What Good have you witnessed recently?
What Good has God brought into your life?
What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?
God is Good!!
