Hearing & Doing Sermon Series

As we continue our journey through James’ letter to the early churches scattered throughout the ancient world, we are invited to follow our faith down the path to maturity in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. James gets rather pointed in this section, calling us not to be mere “hearers” of the Word but to be “doers” of the Word! Join us in this new series as we consider James’ words for the first-century disciples and for modern-day disciples like us as well.

Sunday, February 2nd: True Religion

"It’s not about religion, it’s about relationship.” This phrase is uttered often in the modern-day describing the relationship between the disciple of Jesus and Jesus Himself. It almost seems like religion is a bad word when in reality it is merely relationship lived out in practice. A relationship is not merely declared and then ignored, like saying “I do” at a wedding and then never interacting with your spouse again. A relationship is lived out through daily religious practice. Join us this week as we look at what James describes as appropriate practice for those who are faithful followers of Jesus Christ.

Daily Prayers, Digging Deeper Guide and coordinating Life Group Curriculum are available each week on Sunday to further explore this Sermon Series. You can find those resources (for this week and ALL previous weeks) HERE or at the Welcome Center on Sunday.

Adventure:Kids News

A reminder that this Sunday is Family Worship. While the kids in kindergarten and up are upstairs in worship, our preschoolers will continue their lessons focusing on the Fruit of the Spirit. This week they will be learning about JOY.

We can't wait to see you this Sunday!

Sermon notes and challenges for families are available on the Adventure:Kids Facebook page, OR click here for a pdf version.

Adventure Date Night

Saturday, February 8th from 4:30-7:30

At Adventure of Faith, we value marriages and want to allow some time for parents of young kids to connect with their spouse. Date Night is an event that will allow for parents to get out for a date, and will include some resources to help guide conversation, plan where to go, and assist in ensuring that they can do it again in the future! Our team of volunteers will have a fun night planned for your kids, ages birth through 5th grade. This is a free event.

Annual Report + Call to Action

A Recap from Pastor CJ:

If you were at the Annual Meeting this year, I shared how the Lord had put on my heart a couple of things to be praying about for 2025 that I’d love to share with you here as well.

Leadership:

We ask that you please pray for your leaders, your staff, Session, and Deacon Board, particularly for their ability to discern the Lord’s will, that they would have the wisdom to know when to act, wait, or pray, and that they would be faithful and obedient to whatever the Lord may call them to. Please also pray for those who may be called into leadership in the future, that they might be faithful and obedient to the Lord’s call and that they may have ears to hear the direction He is calling them in.

Discipleship:

The number one way people grow in their relationship with Jesus is through their relationships with other people. Please join us in praying that organic, reciprocal discipleship relationships will develop in our community in 2025. Our hope is that both those who have walked with the Lord a long time and those who are just beginning that journey might be brave and willing to step out of their comfort zone and ask that person out to coffee, decide to get involved in some way in the community, that they may choose to take a step with the Lord with someone else, pursuing Jesus together. We’re not meant to walk this road alone…

Mission:

The phrase that comes to mind is “Every Person in Every Mission Field, Every Day.” This means that it isn’t relegated to leadership or the church staff, but that every person in our church community might take part in this missional movement and that they would see their workplaces, their school classroom, their sports team, and their neighborhood as their personal mission field. Mission doesn’t need to be done programmatically. God has placed each of us as missionaries in these individual spaces and equipped us with a church family that is there to support and encourage us along the way. Every day refers to being intentional about how we engage in our mission fields daily. This isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing things differently. It’s seeing our neighbors as those Jesus put in our lives to love. It’s seeing our sports team as those in need of Jesus.

I hope you’ll join us in not only praying about these things, but beginning to participate in them with us as we seek to lift high the name of Jesus in Port Orchard, Washington and beyond!

HVAC Project

What do I need to know?

- We have 2 furnaces at the Friendship Center side of the building that are 41 years old and 6 furnaces in the Worship Center side of the building that are 31 years old.

- There are over 20 ministries and groups that use the building on a regular basis, not including Worship Services. When the building gets too warm it is hard to meet. The addition of AC not only helps ministries meet in the summer, but opens up future possibilities, like being an emergency shelter.

- Session prayed and felt they wanted to bring the need for new furnaces and AC at Adventure to you our church family.

- Session instructed a team to get multiple bids. We have gotten bids from 4 reputable companies. The cost for the whole project is between $185,000-$200,000.

What are we requesting the church family do?

PRAY! We are asking you to join us in prayer for this project. We are bringing this need to you, and trusting God for how he will use us to take care of this need.

If you have any questions please email mainoffice@faithadventure.com

This section is a weekly reminder that God is Good!

He is good to us every single day & we will praise His name!

This God is Good is shared from Marcia Wilk:

"It is with sad heart and a lot of prayer that I am stepping down from God’s ministry as a leader with Emmanuel’s clothes closet. I am just so thankful that I was able to serve my Lord for 20 ½ years in this ministry. With a joyful heart, I am glad to hand the closet ministry over to Barbara Corcoran who has been my co-leader with running this ministry. She loves this ministry and has agreed to running God’s ministry of the Emmanuel’s clothes closet. I pray you will support her.

I will continue to be a worker at the closet when I am physically able along with our other faithful volunteers, Anita, Janice, Janet, Betty, and Irene. I want to thank you for all your support with this ministry. I thank God for you. I give God all the praise, glory, and honor for His wonderful Ministry—Emmanuel’s Clothes Closet—God with us."

God is Good!

A huge thank you to Marcia for so faithfully leading this ministry and for all the ways it has served our community under her leadership and care. God has certainly done a great work in and through you Marcia, thank you. May He continue to bless you in this next chapter. God is SO Good!

This space in the newsletter is a small way we continue to celebrate the goodness of God all year long, and practice being aware of His presence in our lives. So, if you have stories of God's goodness big or small, hit reply to this email and send them our way. We would love to hear them, pray in praise over them and talk to you about sharing them.

To spur your thoughts to God's goodness start by asking yourself these questions:

What Good have you witnessed recently?

What Good has God brought into your life?

What Good has God prompted you to do for one another?

God is Good!!
