From Our Director

I absolutely love this time of the year! There is something about fall weather that relaxes and energizes me. It also is a reminder that winter is just around the corner. While I am not a big fan of cold weather, the cycle of our seasons changing is a reminder from the Lord that nothing remains the same. How true should that be of us spiritually? Hopefully, we have changed from that very first day that we gave our lives to Jesus and we are growing in our relationship with Him.

As I reflect on the very first day I walked into the offices as an employee of CAS on March 8, 2016, there has certainly been a lot of change. I believe for the most part the changes have been positive and beneficial for God’s kingdom. However, in the last several months, God has been up to something that no one would have ever dreamed possible. As some of you may have heard, on October 1st 2020, CAS became an official ministry of Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina!! BCH is an incredible ministry that has impacted the lives of many children and families since 1885. When we combine their history with Christian Adoption Services’ 41 years of ministry, we have a total of 176 years of impact for children in need. This merger will help CAS continue to fulfill our mission while offering protection and opportunities to reach even more families, expectant moms, and children with the gospel in the years to come. For our CAS family and supporters, not much is changing on the outside. Our name will remain the same with all of our office locations in North and South Carolina staying in place. We will still be responsible for our own budget, and our fundraising events will remain the same. There will be some internal changes as some staff shift to different roles, but our whole team will remain intact and are ready to move forward together. I am so excited to see all God has planned in the future with CAS under the umbrella of BCH!

On the ministry front, we continue to see placements in the Carolinas. We finished our fiscal year with 30 placements, 23 of which occurred since March 12th. We had our first international adoption placement of the year just last week as a family returned from the Philippines with a child. We are so thankful for this placement as Covid-19 has halted all international travel for the last six months. Our foster to adopt program continues to have high interest, and we are thankful for all the families that are in this process right now.

Lastly, the Covid-19 virus has certainly affected the way we hold galas and events. Our golf tourneys went off without a hitch with four of them in August and September raising over $65,000 for the ministry! Our fall galas in Apex, Rocky Mount, and Spartanburg were altered due to Covid regulations. However, we were able to hold the events - two virtually by streaming the program and one outdoors...and still raised an incredible $125,000 for the ministry! God is good, and His hand on this ministry is so evident to all involved.

I am so thankful for all of you who are a part of the CAS family, and now with our merger with BCH - the family just got a whole lot bigger. To God be the glory! Thank you for your prayers and support for CAS. I am also thankful for the CAS board of directors and the BCH board of trustees who all voted unanimously for the merger. Lastly, I am very thankful for Dr. Michael Blackwell, CEO of BCH and Keith Henry, COO of BCH for their prayers and support throughout this entire process. 2020 has been tough in so many ways, but as I reflect over the last 10 months, I am grateful for the blessings of our office move to Indian Trail, 28 placements, and our merger with BCH. I believe that CAS is positioned to move into 2021 with incredible momentum to see even more impact missionally and to further the Gospel to our world!

Take care my friends, and thanks for all you do each day to support Christian Adoption Services.

Super Hero Galas
Thanks to everyone who joined us at one of our fall Super Hero Galas!

On September 17th, a group of you came out in the rain to join us at Apex Baptist where we shared the story of rescue and redemption involving Whitney Harris and her son Maverick. This was our first hybrid event where we had a small socially-distanced group in person plus a large group viewing online.

We held our second hybrid event with a small group of you joining us at New Prospect Baptist Church in Spartanburg on October 15th. A number of you also joined us there online and heard the story of God’s amazing work through the Huneycutt adoption. We are grateful for technology that allows us to be together even when we can’t.

In Apex, almost $53,000 was raised and in Spartanburg, over $11,000 was raised for the ministry of CAS.

Our final gala of the year was held on October 22nd in Rocky Mount and thanks to a beautiful outdoor venue, we were able to hold this event fully in person. We had two seatings which allowed us to stay under the state-mandated gathering size and we enjoyed a wonderful evening together. Thanks to the Huneycutts for again sharing their adoption story. Over $63,000 was raised at this event. Even in this crazy time, God has been so good, and our supporters have been so faithful.
