Advising Team Updates

November 2022

Happy Fall!

It has been a gorgeous season here in Michigan – hope you and yours have been safe and healthy! We are just about mid-way through the semester, and wanted to connect for the November Advisor Update. Please read the items carefully.

If you have questions, contact your Advisor and/or Kelly (fornwalt@msu.edu).

Reminders from The Advising Team!

SPRING REGISTRATION

Registration for Spring will begin on October 31. You were assigned an “appointment” date which refers to the date on which you can start to register. This can be found in your student record SIS – student.msu.edu. This does NOT mean that you need to set an appointment with anyone – you are able to self-enroll.

To clarify, registration for Summer 2023 (for School of SW students) will not start on October 31 (as indicated in the Registrar’s letter). This will open in the Spring – more information will be coming as it gets closer. For now, focus on Spring 2023 registration.

STUDY ABROAD – FINLAND

Dr. Amanda Woodward recently held an information session for those interested in studying abroad in Finland this upcoming year! If you were not able to attend, but are interested in this opportunity, please review the recording at:

Finland 2023 info session

The deadline for the application is Nov 18, 2022 - which can be found at:

https://educationabroad.isp.msu.edu/

GRADPLAN

GradPlan is designed for students to “create and store their degree plans and subsequent graduate program activities”.

More information/explanation can be found at: https://grad.msu.edu/gradplan

These are required to be completed by all students and will be a part of the process for your degree to be conferred.  Therefore, it is very important for students who are planning to graduate in 2023 to complete this soon! Students who are planning to graduate in 2024 or later, you are welcome to complete this now as well. It can be a useful tool for you to map out your programming, and solidify your understanding of requirements (self-audit).

These get reviewed and approved by a number of people/entities/levels – so be patient in that process.

To note: If you complete your GradPlan earlier in your program, and then need to make changes (ex. Re: electives), you will need to re-submit for approvals.

Directions to complete it can be found at the link above and on the Advisor page - https://socialwork.msu.edu/programs/MSW/advising.html
