Project Overview and Benefits
The Palm and Hibiscus Neighborhood Enhancements project is now in the "home stretch." The right of way has undergone full construction which provides a new water and storm water systems including three pump stations, upgraded sanitary sewer infrastructure, lighting, and raised/rebuilt roads. Once the new drain inlets are installed and harmonization is finished, the final layer of asphalt, pavement markings and signage will be installed and the project will be complete.
What's Happening
The city received approval from Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM) to install the new drainage connections for qualifying properties and finalize harmonization efforts.
Schedule
Starting Monday, October 19, 2020, drainage system and harmonization work within private property and right-of-way will commence. The work will start on Palm Island along North Coconut Lane. Crews will be on-site Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Extended time is subject to city approval and community notification. Please note, this schedule could change due to inclement weather or unforeseen field conditions.
What to Expect
- The public information team is coordinating with each qualifying property owner based on the contractor’s schedule.
- Work will be done on one property at a time. Access to individual driveways will be provided at the end of each workday. Cars should be securely located in an area that will be accessible by the resident away from the work area by 8 a.m. or contact the public information team if a special accommodation is required.
- Contractor will temporarily backfill the work area. Final driveway and swale harmonization, including concrete pour and sod installation, will take place within three to four weeks after the completion of the drainage work within that area.
- Residents planning to complete their driveway with a specialty finish (i.e. reinstalling decorative pavers), should begin coordinating with their private contractor.
- Moderate levels of construction noise.
- Construction machinery, vehicles and personnel will be present in the area.

DO NOT park parallel to the valley gutter within the North Coconut Lane work zone. Vehicles must be all the way inside a driveway (if there’s no conflict with work at that location).
Please note, the project team is closely monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19. The contractor is enforcing strict social distancing measures and employees are using face covers while on site, including during break times.
