Advisory: Drainage Work at New Marine Patrol Facility. Adjacent Boat Ramp Temporarily Closed.

Notice date: October 8, 2026

What’s Happening

Construction of the new Marine Patrol Facility adjacent to Maurice Gibb Memorial Park began in July 2026. As of October, the old building is demolished and the contractor has started onsite drainage work.

As shown in the diagram, the construction crews are already working on the drainage structure within their existing work zone (green area). The second phase of work for this task (noted in red) is scheduled to start on Monday, October 12 and will require parking restrictions and limited boat ramp access for approximately two weeks. The last phase of this operation involves connecting the two drainage structures underground with a large pipe between them (see blue on diagram). Crews will have to dig a trench going across the boat ramp entrance for this installation; therefore, the boat ramp will be closed to marine vessels to access the water for approximately five days starting Monday, October 26.

Later in October, pile driving is scheduled as part of the drainage structure installation efforts. Nearby residents can expect to hear associated noise while pile driving is happening in the construction zones.

Timeline

This drainage structure installation task is expected to take approximately one month for completion. Overall construction began in July 2026 and the expected full duration of the project is approximately 13 months.

Work hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Extended time is subject to city approval and community notification. Please note, schedules may change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Project Overview

The City of Miami Beach is replacing and expanding the Marine Patrol Facility adjacent to Maurice Gibb Memorial Park to unify police and fire marine operations in one modern, strategically located center. This consolidation strengthens coordination and improves emergency response across the city’s busy waterfront.

The new facility is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, reflecting a commitment to sustainability, resilience and long‑term environmental stewardship. It will support essential public safety functions while enhancing visitor amenities and upgrading critical waterfront infrastructure. This project is partially funded with General Obligation bonds, as approved by the 2018 G.O. Bond vote.

The design brings together essential public safety needs, visitor amenities and resilient infrastructure upgrades — providing benefits for everyone, from park visitors to first responders and people who may be on a vessel in area waters.
