The Asheboro Zoo City Summerfest is this weekend in downtown Asheboro and will truly feature something for everyone. The Chamber and the City of Asheboro have partnered on various formats of this event over the years, and it's now being managed by Downtown Asheboro Inc., housed at the Chamber office. On Friday, August 6, between 6 and 10 p.m., food trucks, drinks and some great music will be featured in Bicentennial Park, including Corey Hunt and the Wise and a Journey Tribute band called Departure. On Saturday, August 7, the Zooland Region 30th Annual Antique Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fayetteville Street. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., a BMX show, Streatery, local vendors, a children's area, and firetruck sprinkler will give you plenty to do on Sunset Avenue and Fayetteville Street. Chamber and EDC Partner to Host Industry Tour for Congressional Field Reps

Recently Linda Brown, Chamber President, and Kevin Franklin, EDC President, hosted the Field Representatives for US Senator Burr (Mike Fenley), US Senator Tillis (Stephanie Blair), and Congressman Budd (Sam Shumate). Joining them was Chair of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners, Darrell Frye. Visits included: Timken, POST Consumer Brands, Indorama-StarPet, Energizer, Oliver Rubber Company, Pemmco Manufacturing, Sapona Plastics, and Klaussner Furniture.

One special stop was at the Asheboro Regional Airport. City officials and Airport Authority Board members were able to show more than $2 Million in capital improvements that are underway (new runway lighting system and a new 80ft x 80ft hangar). Plans for the future of the Airport include a new terminal building.

LAST WEEK IN RALEIGH:

While our representatives in Raleigh are in the crucial budget negotiation phase of the 2021 legislative session, the next few weeks appear likely to remain on the quieter side at the General Assembly. Members of the Senate are expected to hold their next voting session next week, the House aims to finalize its budget proposal by the second week in August. Following that we can expect the negotiation process to ramp up. This sets the stage for a potential budget deal before the end of August.
