At KC Shepherd's Center, we advocate for public policy and funding to support older adults, lifting up the voice of the older adult in self-advocacy. This week, we have an update about the senior property tax freeze in Jackson County, Missouri.

The deadline to apply for the Property Tax Freeze is December 31st. This program can help stabilize your property taxes and protect you from rising costs. Don’t miss this opportunity to secure financial peace of mind! 


Who is Eligible? 

To qualify, applicants must: 

  • Be a Jackson County resident
  • Be 62 years of age or older
  • Be the property owner or have a legal or equitable interest in the home. 
  • Be liable for real property taxes on the home. 
  • Occupy the property as their primary residence


What Documents Are Required? 

You’ll need to provide the following to prove eligibility: 

  1. Proof of Jackson County Residency: Examples: Driver's license, voter registration card, or utility bill. 
  2. Proof of Age (62 or older) : Examples: Any government-issued ID with your date of birth, such as a driver’s license, military ID, or birth certificate. 
  3. Proof of Interest in the Property (if not on the deed) : Examples: Trust agreement or other documentation proving legal interest in the property.

  2. Submit your documents: Follow the instructions provided on the application website.
