Stop Cuts to Homeless Services and Affordable Housing!

President Biden and House Republicans are close to a deal to lift the debt ceiling to prevent a U.S. default on June 1, 2023. This deal may include cuts to affordable housing, work requirements for anti-poverty programs, and the rescission of Covid-19 relief funding. It is critical for advocates to reach out to their members of Congress and urge them to oppose these harmful cuts. Here are some ways to take action:

  • Email, call, or tweet your members of Congress.
  • Post your work on social media using the hashtag #CutsHurt and tag your members of Congress and @NLIHC!
TAKE ACTION

Please also urge your Representatives to support and cosponsor H.R. 645 in the House, and your Senators to support and cosponsor S. 1436, so that the additional COVID resources for veterans experiencing homelessness don’t disappear. Now is not the time to take homelessness services away from veterans:

Support the Charitable Act

The Charitable Act was introduced in the Senate by U.S. Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Chris Coons (D-DE) on March 1st. This legislation restores the universal charitable deduction and raises the cap from $300 for individuals ($600 for joint filers) to approximately $4,600 for individuals ($9,200 for joint filers). This change, if made law, would help encourage individuals to donate to nonprofits like Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry. Learn more about The Charitable Act in this one-pager and contact your Member of Congress to share your support:
