Advocacy News from LMM
12 Days and Counting
The 2022 General Election is just 12 days away. Make sure you have a plan to vote early in-person at your local board of elections or on election day (Tuesday, November 8th) at your local polling location. As a reminder, your election day polling location can change so be sure to double-check the address prior to going to vote. Also, make sure to bring appropriate identification and leave your political clothing at home or covered with a jacket! Finally, it can be helpful to look at what’s on your ballot prior to voting. You can view your sample ballot here.

Over the past three months, LMM has engaged with both County Executive candidates Chris Ronayne (D) and Lee Weingart (R) through site visits, candidate forums, and handouts. Get up to speed on each candidate's policy positions before going to vote!

ICYMI: LMM Opposes Issue 1
The general election ballot includes Issue 1, a constitutional amendment that if passed, would impact how bail is decided in courtrooms across Ohio. LMM opposes Issue 1 because it would reverse long-fought efforts by the Ohio Supreme Court and advocates to bring more equity into bail setting. Specifically, Issue 1 would lead to higher levels of cash bail being set which disproportionately impacts people who are low-income and people of color.

Be Prepared... To Vote For Judges
Judges can have a significant impact on an individual’s experience with the criminal justice system. However, a 2014 survey conducted by the Ohio Fair Courts Alliance found that 63% of Ohio voters didn’t vote for judges because they didn’t know enough about the candidates. To help promote equity and fairness in the criminal justice system, it's important that voters enter the voting booth with some knowledge of the candidate(s) on the ballot.

The Office of Advocacy created a ‘Judges 101” one-pager to ensure all voters had access to the necessary resources before completing their ballot.
