Advocacy Victory for our Special Education Schools!
We are thrilled to announce that together we have realized our goal of achieving an 11% increase for 853 and 4410 special education schools during the 2022-23 school year!

This success is due in large part to your ardent advocacy over the past few months. Thank you for sending the one-click letters to your legislators and the Governor fighting for New York's special education schools. Your advocacy has made all the difference!

In addition to the grassroots one-click campaign, The Arc New York and other leading special education advocates sent letters to New York State Board of Regents Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr., NYS Education Department (SED) Commissioner Betty Rosa, and Governor Kathy Hochul. This community of stakeholders and advocates demonstrated the power of raising our voices together toward a common and crucial goal.

We thank our partners at SED for their tireless efforts on behalf of our schools and students, and to the Governor and her senior staff, both for this historic $240 million commitment and their ongoing efforts to ensure this needed funding is available to our schools and students.

We also extend our thanks to our dedicated teachers and education staff, whose unflagging support of their students every day helps fulfill our mission to provide people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the ordinary and extraordinary opportunities of life!

There is still more work to be done but this is a monumental start.
