Advocacy Alert & Update
Actions Needed NOW!
Greetings!

Bills are moving fast in Jefferson City, some even reaching the House and Senate Floor for debate and passage last week. Immediate actions are needed and are outlined below.

  • The Senate Emerging Issues Committee held hearings that would restrict children's ability to play sports and then moved SB 39 onto the full Senate. Here is JCRC's testimony.
  • Contact our Senator and tell them to vote no on SB 39.

And there are more hearings happening this week on many of these issues, notably on Tuesday the Senate Education and Workforce Development will hear the SB 134, "Don't Say Gay" and the Senate Emerging Issues Committee will hear two bill regarding inability to change birth certificates.

This Thursday, Feb. 9, is Education Lobby Day in Jefferson City, sponsored by the Missouri Education Equity Partnership. I have space in the minivan if you want to join me.

And lastly, mark your calendar for a Virtual Interfaith Town Hall on Feb. 23 on Clean Slate Expungement, a priority issue for JCRC. This will be followed by a Clean Slate Expungement Lobby Day on March 8.

Thank you for your advocacy.
