What
effects do AdvoCare Meal Replacement Shakes have on blood sugar
levels?
The
effects of drinking a Chocolate, Berry or Vanilla Meal Replacement
Shake on blood sugar levels are presented in the graph below. The
results clearly show that the Meal Replacement Shakes have
relatively little impact on blood sugar levels as compared to a
standard serving of sugar (50 grams). Blood sugar levels on average
increased from approximately 88 mg/dL to approximately 96 to 100
mg/dL and returned to baseline within 60 minutes. The average
glycemic load for Meal Replacement Shakes is approximately 4 as
compared to 50 for glucose. Glycemic load is a determination of the
relative effects that a food will have on blood sugar levels, and
is determined by dividing the glycemic index by 100 and multiplying
by the grams of absorbable carbohydrates in a given portion of
food.
The effects of taking three Carb-Ease capsules 15 minutes before
consuming either a Berry or Chocolate Shake are also very helpful.
Blood sugar levels were not as high as without Carb-Ease and
returned to baseline more rapidly when used.
What
effects do AdvoCare bars have on blood sugar levels?
AdvoCare
has examined blood sugar levels produced by eating the Meal
Replacement Bar, Fruit & Fiber Bar, Heart Source Bar (currently
discontinued), Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Bar, Lemon Crunch Breakfast
Bar (currently discontinued), and Berry Crunch Breakfast Bar. The
bars were eaten on an empty stomach, and blood sugar levels were
determined periodically over a two-hour period of time. The
increases in blood sugar levels were compared to a standard 50-gram
glucose intake. The results are presented in the figure
below.
All AdvoCare bars have a very low impact on blood sugar levels. On
average, blood sugar levels increased from approximately 88 mg/dL
before eating a bar to approximately 96 to 100 mg/dL for the
AdvoCare bars. In addition, AdvoCare bars have low to moderate
glycemic loads which is a measure of the glycemic index divided by
the available grams of carbohydrate. The Fruit & Fiber Bar
gives the most rapid increase in blood sugar, but it returns to
baseline more rapidly than other AdvoCare bars. AdvoCare bars have
a very low impact on blood sugar compared to typical candy
bars.
What effects do AdvoCare Spark Energy
Drinks have on blood sugar levels?
The
effects of AdvoCare Spark Energy Drink flavors (Citrus, Fruit
Punch, Grape, Mandarin Orange, and Cherry) on blood sugar levels
were compared with those of a standard 50-gram glucose intake.
Following ingestion of each product, blood sugar levels were
determined periodically for two hours. The results for each drink
are presented in the graph below.
Following consumption of a Spark Energy Drink, blood sugar levels
increased from approximately 88 mg/dL to approximately 106 to 114
mg/dL with the maximum increase occurring between 15 and 30
minutes. The maximum increase was produced by Citrus Spark while
the lowest increase was produced by Mandarin Orange Spark. Blood
sugar levels returned to baseline for all products within 60
minutes. Although Spark Energy Drinks do not contain free sugar,
they do contain maltodextrin which is broken down into sugar
(glucose) and absorbed. The glycemic loads of Spark Energy Drinks
fall in the lower half of the medium range based on the low amount
of available carbohydrate.
