Should Catholics Talk to the Dead?
While only a very small percentage of our subscribers are practicing Catholics, this article is of great interest to all of us, because it addresses the conflict many people feel when their inter-dimensional experiences seem to go against religious doctrine:
"Dana Nygaard is a Catholic and a licensed professional counselor who speaks to grief groups and counsels clients through loss. Nygaard told CNA that because many Catholics misunderstand what happens to souls after death, she urges caution when talking about what it means to talk to dead loved ones.
'If they're speaking to a loved one, how are they doing that? Is it through saying, 'Hey grandma, I think you're up there in heaven with God. I really hope you pray and look over me.' Okay, well that sounds fine,' she said.
"Or...are they going to a psychic or a medium? Is this necromancy? How were they doing this? I think that's an important question,' Nygaard said.
"According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 'all forms of divination are to be rejected,' which includes the conjuring up the dead.
However, the Church encourages
Catholics to pray for the dead as one of the spiritual works of mercy."

Bringing Death Midwifery Into the Mainstream
Many of our newsletter subscribers and Afterlife Conference attendees are pursing careers in death midwifery. The problem is that the medical establishment and the mainstream hospice community does not recognize "death doula" as a viable professional designation.
The good news is that there is a powerful movement emerging to bridge this gap, and it is creating significant inroads to the leading organization in the hospice field, the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).
If you're interested in increasing awareness of the benefits of doulas for the dying and their families, please read THIS ARTICLE. This is what we want the future of end-of-life care to look like... a world where death midwives are present in hospitals, nursing homes, emergency rooms, ambulances, battlefields and other environments where people are dying and need compassionate assistance with the transition process.
