We know there are hundreds of library supporters that will be with us in spirit as we march the halls of the Legislative Office Building in Albany!
Here are two easy ways you can help from your home or office:
Use the New York Library Association (NYLA) Online Advocacy Center (OAC) to send a custom message to your legislators. Already done that? Get 3 people to use the OAC:

MHLS is
looking for a
part time Administrative Associate
who is energetic, conscientious, and detail oriented to support our Executive Director and be part of our operations team in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support for stakeholder meetings including production of meeting packets, taking minutes and event planning;
- Lead responsibility for recordkeeping related to the board of trustees;
- Maintenance of member and legislator information database and creation of reports;
- General office duties that include, but are not limited to scheduling, use of office productivity software, file maintenance, and office and hospitality supply management.

In 2019 thirty-four libraries were awarded a total of $24,784
in Outreach mini-grants. Over 3,300 people attended a program funded or partially funded by the mini-grants. Libraries partnered with at least 30 outside organizations to provide outreach services for their community. Projects funded by the mini-grants include:
- A weekly mobile library to visit an assisted living facility
- Mobile hotspots with kits to circulate to the community
- Quality basic computer instruction to seniors in the community
- A 6-week series of exercise programs for older adults
- A series of classes for developmentally disabled adults from Taconic Innovations
- Reminisce kits in the library for seniors
- A series of creative writing classes

In partnership with Southeastern New York Library Resources Council and regional School Library Systems, Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) will host its second Banned Books Symposium on Saturday, March 7th on the MSMC campus in Newburgh, NY. This half-day conference will kick off with Drag Queen Victoria Precise reading from a children's book that was challenged due to its LGBTQ content. Breakout sessions will feature presentations on all aspects of working with and responding to banned, challenged, and controversial books. In a breakout session, Strength in Adversity Hosting LGBTQ Events in Your Community, Putnam Valley Library Director, Dede Farabaugh, (pictured right) will be sharing her experience and best practice for policy and protests for hosting a Drag Queen Story Hour at a public library. The closing session of the day will feature keynote speaker Nick Bruel, author and illustrator of New York Times bestseller Boing, Bad Kitty, Bad Kitty Gets a Bath and Bad Kitty Meets the Baby, among others. The Games and Gaming Round Table of the American Library Association has unveiled a new annual grant program
to enable libraries to develop gaming programs or collections for their public. Through the new
Game On! grants
$500 will be available to be awarded as one grant of $500 or two of $250, each to assist a library or libraries in developing gaming programs or collections for their communities. ALA members in good standing currently employed at a public, school, academic or special library in the United States or Canada are eligible to apply. Libraries will need to illustrate a plan for a sustainable gaming program created with the funds as well as financial need and institutional support for the proposed program. The application period will take place from
January 1 to March 1 of each year

Library Director, Dover Plains Library
The Dover Plains Library in Dutchess County, NY is seeking an innovative, motivated and resourceful Director to oversee the administration of Library operations. Candidates need excellent communication and customer service skills and are expected to maintain positive relationships with the public community organizations, Town officials and the Library Board and Staff. You should be open to new and creative ideas that can benefit and engage our
community, as well as embrace current practices successfully in place such as our Non-Dewey cataloging system for our non-fiction collection and maintaining a Little Free Library at a shelter along the Appalachian Trail.
MLS required, must be organized and detail oriented. Minimum 2 years experience in a library or other customer oriented establishment. Must hold or be eligible to obtain NY State Public Librarian Certification. Starting salary is $50,000 and may be negotiable depending upon experience. Health Insurance is available.
