2025 Lobby Day Recap

On February 4th, the Washington Denturist Association had a successful and productive Legislative Day in Olympia! Our members gathered to advocate for the profession, discuss key legislative priorities, and engage directly with lawmakers.

One of the highlights of the day was our meeting with newly-elected Insurance Commissioner Kuderer, where we addressed the ongoing struggles that denturists face with insurance reimbursement. Despite existing laws that mandate coverage for denturist services, many patients still struggle to use their benefits, and we emphasized the need for strong enforcement and policy changes. Our conversations are continuing, and we are encouraged by the positive progress being made toward meaningful solutions.

We also met with several legislators and their staff, including Senator King, Representative Steele, Representative Corry, and Senator Goehner, to discuss the priorities set forth by the WDA:

  • Ensuring patients can access and use their denture benefits - advocating for SB 5351 to prohibit unfair insurance practices
  • Preserving the Adult Dental Medicaid Program - protecting coverage for over a million Washington adults
  • Growing the denturist workforce - securing funding for denturist education and expanding pathways into the profession.

It was an impactful day of advocacy, and we appreciate all who participated. We hope to have even more denturists join us for Lobby Day in 2025 to continue making our voices heard! We also encourage you to take the next step in advocacy by inviting your local legislators to visit your practice once the Legislative session is over. This is a great opportunity to show them firsthand the critical work denturists do and the challenges we face.
