San Jose Spotlight
The construction of nearly 200 affordable apartments will break ground next month in South San Jose. San Jose City Council unanimously approved a $73.7 million in multifamily housing revenue bonds on June 10 to close the remaining gap needed to finance the $160-million affordable housing development with developer Affirmed Housing. The 191-apartment complex will be 100% affordable housing, with 128 onsite parking spaces.

Bell Ranch breaks ground...
Located in Riverside county, CA., Bell Ranch will offer 130 affordable homes. Featuring two, three and four bedroom apartments, Wildomar will consist of 13, two and three story buildings spread on an 8.9 acre property. Affordable to those who earn 30%-70% AMI, the new development will offer over 200+ parking spots, a community room, two pavilion areas with a tot lot, play area and resident courtyards with barbeques. Interiors will be furnished with low flow fixtures, and energy star appliances to reduce tenants utility bills.

On Thursday June 5th, Affirmed Housing and MTS celebrated the topping out of SkyLINE in Rancho Bernardo. Due to open in winter 2025, the media event was held to celebrate the construction milestone. SkyLINE will offer 100 apartment homes for those who earn 30%-60% AMI. Speakers included MTS Board Chair Stephen Whitburn, Affirmed President Jimmy Silverwood, Affirmed CFO Nicki Cometa and San Diego County Building & Construction Trades Council Political Director Ansermio Jake, "AJ" Estrada.
| | | This year’s Douglas W. Masson Memorial Scholarship Awards Celebration Dinner was held on June 26th at the Affirmed Housing headquarters. Affirmed Housing and Compass for Affordable Housing awarded seven brilliant individuals this year for a total of $30,000.00, with fields of study ranging from physical therapy, sociology, social work, biomedicine, health and human development. Each year, we offer scholarships to residents of Affirmed Housing communities throughout California to support and encourage their pursuit of a higher education. We provide scholarships to a diverse array of students, ranging from people seeking their GED, vocational/trade school, graduate school, and undergraduate degrees. We are extremely proud of this year’s awardees and wish them all the best in their academic journey. Every year, Affordable Housing Finance’s Readers’ Choice Awards recognize exceptional affordable housing communities across the United States. Featured finalists are projects that raise the bar for excellence, serving as examples of determination and ingenuity and beating the odds to become someone’s haven. This year, ShoreLINE Apartments, a transit-oriented, multifamily community developed in partnership with the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, has been selected in the Family Finalists category. We’re pleased to be included among this year’s group of outstanding projects that are making a mark in the industry and, more importantly, in people’s lives.

As the need for affordable housing increases, we are proud to to be active in community outreach and events in order to spread awareness about affordable and supportive housing. We believe that knowledge will lead to support.
Affordable Housing can help stabilize neighborhoods and lower crime rates. Affordable housing can contribute to neighborhood stability and potentially lower crime rates by fostering community cohesion and encouraging cooperation, as well as providing residents with a sense of belonging and investment in their community. Stable housing can also reduce the cycle of evictions and homelessness, which can negatively impact communities. A study by the University of California Irvine's Livable Cities Lab (LCL) found that affordable housing does not negatively impact the surrounding community, and in many ways, it enhances both local property values and increases public safety.
