OCTOBER 2026

Home is more than a place to live. It’s where we build relationships, establish routines, and put down roots in our communities.

This October, we’re sharing new affordable homeownership opportunities, exploring why staying in your home matters, and celebrating the many ways neighbors and supporters can come together to build connections.

But first, we’re recognizing two exceptional women whose leadership, compassion, and commitment have made a lasting impact on Habitat for Humanity.

We share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our Board Member, Linda Duncombe. Linda was more than a dedicated leader and advocate for Habitat LA — she was a kind and compassionate friend.

She deeply believed that everyone deserves safe and affordable housing and often spoke about how meaningful it was to give back to the community she cared so much about.

We are incredibly grateful for the love, leadership, and friendship Linda shared with our Habitat LA family. Her impact will be felt for years to come, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda’s family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Natosha Reid Rice has been a powerful voice, a thoughtful leader, and a source of inspiration across the Habitat for Humanity network for nearly two decades.

Her leadership has challenged us to think bigger, lead with purpose, and stay grounded in the people and communities at the heart of our mission.

Natosha, thank you for your wisdom, your authenticity, and the many ways you have strengthened Habitat in California. Your impact will be felt for years to come.

The Habitat network is celebrating all you have given to this movement.

Development Update: Orange Avenue is Now Drew Lane!

A new name and construction milestone.

Our Orange Avenue development has a new name: Drew Lane, named after Andrew Rodriguez, Habitat LA’s construction supply coordinator.

“Andrew has dedicated more than 20 years to Habitat LA, contributing his talents across both our ReStores and construction teams. Naming Drew Lane in his honor is a special way to celebrate that commitment and the lasting impact he has made on Habitat LA and the communities we serve.” — Isabel Lee, Chief Strategy and Operations Officer at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles

Construction progress at Drew Lane reached a new milestone with the garage foundation fully completed and 91% of the main building’s framing completed.

Thank you to our construction team and the many volunteers who’ve made this milestone possible! Work continues with garage wall framing underway, followed by roof sheathing, house wrap, and installation of windows and doors.

The “Forever Home” Is Having a Moment

Why a forever home matters more than ever.

High home prices, elevated mortgage rates, and rising moving costs are prompting more homeowners to rethink their next move. For many, renovating an existing home can make more sense than relocating.

The benefits of staying put may start with finances, but the broader advantages don’t end there — ➡️ read more in our latest blog.

Celebrating Community at Taste of Soul

Angelenos share what home means to them.

On October 17, Habitat LA joined the Taste of Soul Family Festival along Crenshaw Boulevard, where Angelenos came together to celebrate culture, food, music, and neighborhood pride.

Festivalgoers who stopped by Habitat LA’s booth explored homeownership resources and homebuying opportunities while sharing their perspectives on what home means to them.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, and to Taste of Soul for another successful year of connection and community celebration.

Honoring Veterans Through Home Repairs

Habitat for Heroes returns November 5–7.

Ahead of Veterans Day, Habitat LA is preparing to honor local veterans through the Habitat for Heroes Home Repair Program. From November 5–7, dedicated sponsors and volunteers will join forces in Norwalk and Carson to support two local veteran families — one who served in the U.S. Army and another who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Projects will include exterior painting and fencing to help improve the comfort, upkeep, and security of their homes. Addressing critical home repairs like these helps ensure that veterans, active-duty personnel, and their families are supported in maintaining a safe and stable place to live.
