Dear Friends,
After IBC, I need another vacation in Greece. Or perhaps I should simply move there. The donkeys answered my phone and took messages. If that is not a superior customer-service model, I do not know what is!
This year’s IBC in Amsterdam was interesting from more than one angle. First, there is no polite way around it: attendance was down. IBC is international by design, and this year Africa, the Middle East, India, and Asia felt lightly represented. The aisles were quieter. The conversations were not. Foot traffic was slow; the quality of leads was not. For XGN — and for more than a few other vendors — it was the best IBC we have had.
XGN managed to stir a little trouble with the world’s first 5G Broadcast receiver box, Charlie, powered by Arthur software. Delivery begins in November. The first run is already sold out! Charlie receives in bands 112 (U.S./India) and 113 (EU), and it will keep a log while you are out in the field measuring signal strength — which is either engineering or a very expensive hobby, depending on the hour. Charlie will be Release 19 compliant by year’s end. It starts at $395.
Yes, that last paragraph was shameless self-promotion.
We were delighted to learn that industry legend — and LPTVBA Mike Gravino Lifetime Achievement recipient — Perry Priestly has joined TRedess, where he will lead U.S. sales for the company’s high-quality, Spanish-made transmitters. Congratulations, Perry. Sell them as well as you have always sold the idea that this industry still matters.
And how does one close a column without mentioning the LPTVBA podcast? The numbers continue to misbehave in the best possible way. Listens have doubled this month, from last month’s total, to more than 7,000. Seven thousand. Thank you to every relative who spent last week looping the episodes until the algorithm surrendered.
October’s podcast: LPTV: From Bargain Bin to Beachfront — or, The Little Stations That Could… The Game Changer: 5G Broadcast!
Keep smiling!
