After School Child Care Services
Dear Washington Unified Families,

We want to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback as we look to strengthen our efforts regarding after school child care.

After careful review of the input provided through the Parent and Community Survey published in December 2018, our district has been considering a number of options. One of the challenges is that our school district receives a restricted grant to offer free child care at selected school sites and due to grant restrictions, it prohibits us from offering this service to all school sites.

We currently have an established partnership with the YMCA to offer fee-for-service child care at Bridgeway Island Elementary School and Southport Elementary School. Our strong collaboration with the YMCA continues as they consider other options for expanding the number of families they can serve at Bridgeway Island Elementary and Southport Elementary while also trying expand their services elsewhere in our school district.

Additionally, at the regularly scheduled Board of Education Meeting on February 14, 2019, the Washington Unified School District Board of Trustees will review a proposal to bring in another vendor offering the same fee-for-service child care at Stonegate Elementary School and to add to the existing fee-for-services offered at Bridgeway Island Elementary and Southport Elementary.

Partnerships with two vendors allow our school district to provide more options for meeting the needs of families while we continue to explore additional options to serve our larger community. For more information or questions regarding after school child care services, please contact Assistant Superintendent Amber Lee at (916) 375-7600 ext. 1302.
