Greetings from Serene Harbor.
" We are excited to have our shelter back open to serve our community. Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare the shelter for our residents, building and creating new programs/services, working with our community partners, honing their skills through continued education and training; and it's all benefiting our residents and our outreach clients with amazing results. I am extremely proud of this team and the tremendous work they do to help domestic violence survivors find safety, independence and empowerment."

Jacqueline Vanderby, Resource Advocate

A resource advocate works closely with Serene Harbor shelter clients to help them overcome recent trauma, gain life skills and achieve their personal goals. As a resource advocate, I work with our shelter clients to provide a safe, welcoming environment for families escaping an abusive partner. Together, our Case Manager and I help clients get stable careers, get accepted into school programs and find new homes for themselves and their families. Part of my role is to work with the community to find new community partners and programs that could benefit our client’s future. I’ve also developed a mentoring program to help our clients achieve higher education goals as well as their personal life goals. The program is called Serene Harbor Education Empowerment. As a resource advocate, I’m always looking for the best way to help our clients grow and change in a positive way.
“Empowerment begins the moment you decide that you deserve better”

New Program
This is the program developed my Jacqueline, our Resource Advocate. Partnering with FIT, Eastern Florida State, and other community partners, gives our clients valuable resources and opportunities. Thrivent Financial is currently running a backpack and supplies drive for our clients that are pursuing an education.

(You can read more about the drive below...)

We appreciate all our community partners; including Slug-A-Bug for providing pest control services for our shelter and outreach buildings; and Thrivent Financial for sponsoring a backpack and supplies drive for our clients who are going to work and/or school. Special thanks also goes to our drop-off locations: K9 Kampus , Kinna's Blow Dry Bar , Femme Fatale ARMS , and S pace Coast Convention Center . We are grateful for you all!
