Who was Fannie C. Harris?
After8toEducate is the name of the backbone organization behind a public-private collaborative. The facility known as the former Fannie C. Harris Elementary School has not been officially named. To begin the naming process, After8 discovered the identity of Fannie C. Harris. Born a slave towards the end of the Civil War in Harris County, Georgia, Fannie Chase Harris was educated by Quakers and moved to Corsicana to begin her teaching career. After five years, she moved to Dallas to teach at the first Dallas high school for African American youth, known as "Colored School Number 1." She taught music, language arts, and physical education into the 20th century until her death. The school named in her honor opened in 1951.

Dana Juett Residents Win Fast Pitch on After8toEducate
SVP Dallas' Dana Juett Residency (DJR) program helps young professionals engage in philanthropy earlier in their careers and develop a strategic mindset for doing good in the world. This spring, After8toEducate has benefited from their expertise and dedication via pro bono consulting and this year's Fast Pitch. The program's Fast Pitch Competition puts to the test the Residents skills by making a culminating pitch about the social impact organization that each DJR team is assigned.  After8toEducate received a $2,500 donation on behalf of the DJR team's winning pitch. After8 is extremely grateful for the support and expertise of the Dana Juett Residents on building the project's capacity.
