Plans for 49 age-restricted homes off Route 73 in Voorhees near Signal Hill Drive get by first approval.

With a neighborhood association's backing, the planned development of 49 homes for seniors off Route 73 in Voorhees passed the first step in the Township zoning board's approval process last week.

The board voted unanimously to approve a use variance for Tudor Development LLC and D.R. Horton homebuilders to construct the residential properties on 13.75 mostly wooded acres in a restricted commercial zone. Site plan approvals still will need to go before the board in the future.

"I'm very happy to report that when they (Tudor representatives) first contacted me that they really expressed the feeling that they don't want to proceed unless they get some agreement from us and they've been very cooperative," said Edward Ferruggia, of Harwood Drive, representing the neighborhood association of 728 homes in bordering Sturbridge Lakes. He said the developer first considered a commercial project near the Signal Hill Drive land, but later changed it to residential.

An entrance and exit to the development of age-restricted, two-bedroom homes, which are estimated to sell for around $600,000, will be on Route 73.

One of N.J.‘s hottest new burger joints already opening 2nd location. Here’s where.

Less than a year after its debut, one of New Jersey’s hottest new burger spots already has a second location.

Smash Bros, a budding South Jersey burger joint, opened a new outpost in Glassboro March 1. The expansion comes after Brothers Mo and Fahmi Abuhmoud opened the first Smash Bros in a 500-square-foot, takeout-only space in Runnemede last April.

The Abuhmoud brothers said the Smash Bros location in Runnemede often drew very long lines and dealt with storage issues. They are hopeful a larger space will be able to handle even greater demand. The Glassboro shop is a 16,000-square-foot restaurant with expanded seating and storage capabilities.

The Abuhmoud brothers hope the larger kitchen space in Glassboro will help Smash Bros avoid issues that plagued the flagship location, namely running out of products.

Former restaurant in Marlton trades for $2.3M; new owner plans cannabis retail dispensary

The former Mexican Food Factory property in Marlton sold recently for $2.3 million, according to Marlton-based A.J. Sussman Co.’s principal, Alan Sussman, who represented the buyer.

Located at 601 Route 70 W in Marlton, the 3,800-square foot standalone building was sold to a buyer, who was already awarded a license to sell cannabis by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC). Additionally, the township of Evesham has approved a retrofit the property to open a Class 5 cannabis retail dispensary sometime early in 2026.

“Having lived and worked in South Jersey since 1985, I cannot count the number of times I passed by and frequented the Mexican Food Factory. It was a transaction that took a bit longer than some but, in the end, the two parties were pleased with the result. I am proud to have helped make it happen,” Sussman said of the deal.
