Prevent Child Abuse Florida is working on their “primary prevention app.” This app involves converting their Parent/Caregiver Guides into app form. They will be taking this year to study this arena and will remain open to all possibilities, partners, and ideas. As such, they are asking for your collaboration to make sure we pick the right path forward.
They are starting their process by conducting a survey to determine the next steps. They are wanting to engage with partners now who may be willing to collaborate on the design, function, and overall content of the app, so if you or anyone you know has an interest in working with us on this exciting new project, please contact Chris Lolley at (850) 933-3271 or clolley@ounce.org. They will also be looking for potential vendors and funders willing to be involved early in this process.

Florida College Access Network (FCAN) is pleased to announce the kick off of the Florida FAFSA Challenge for the 2021-22 school year! The challenge calls on schools, districts, and communities to increase the number of graduating high school seniors who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which helps students who qualify to access funds to pay for college.

DCF Online Course: Supporting Literacy in School-Age |
The Department of Children and Families Office of Child Care Regulation is offering a new online course, Supporting Literacy in School-Age Programs. The goal of this course is to prepare out-of-school time (OST) practitioners to foster the development of reading and writing in school-age children, and to identify and address risk factors for delays in literacy in order to mitigate or prevent future illiteracy. Upon completion of this course, child care professionals will be able to:
- Describe the developmental process related to literacy and the implications on school-age children
- Explain how the development of literacy can be supported in various components of school-age programs
- Name the characteristics of effective literacy initiatives in school-age programs
- Relate best practices in implementing literacy curricula throughout the components of school-age programs
- Identify risk factors that may cause delays in the development of literacy
