YSA's Hershey Heartwarming Young Heroes GYSD Grants Open Through March 11

YSA will award up to $50,000 in grants for youth-led service projects and community-building activities for Global Youth Service Day (held during April 29-May 1). This grant was created to reach leaders with creative ideas to foster meaningful connections, promote inclusion, and teach empathy. Applications will close on March 11.

With $100, $250, and $500 grant options, all youth ages 5-25 in the United States (including territories and military bases & DoD schools) and Canada are eligible to apply for “miniature-size” family-and-friends projects, “standard size” group/class/club projects, or “king-size” community-wide projects. See how 12 of last year's grantees made a difference!

Inclusion Spotlight
Tips for Supporting Students with Emotional Behavior Disorder in an Inclusive Space

Students experiencing Emotional Behavior Disorder (EBD) can benefit from classroom management practices and enjoy participating in an inclusive space. These recommendations include:

  • Clear and Simple Rules – Try to keep activities as focused as possible with no more than 5 steps. Consider the use of response cards, clickers, unison responding, and guided notes. These interactive tools provide structure that improves engagement!
  • Use Motivational Strategies – Celebrating success as often as possible, including putting in good effort, lets students feel recognized, seen, and supported. Often students respond more positively to reward than disapline.
  • Allow for Mini-Breaks – "Staying on task" should include stepping away, too. Build breaks into your plan and encourages students to stretch and move around. You may find you get to where you want to be going quicker with these pit stops!

More good news: many of these strategies can support success for all students in the classroom! Read more in the Reslient Educator article here.
