Speak up for your community!

The President's budget eliminates dedicated funding for 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) - the only federal funding stream for afterschool and summer programs. If this goes through, programs serving 11,000 kids in Iowa, and over 1.4 million kids nationally, are at risk of being eliminated. Alternatively, this funding would be rolled into a block grant that will not meet the needs of Iowa communities.

The Ask:

Tell your Iowa members of Congress how important afterschool is to your community!

The Why:

  • Iowa has 4 kids waiting for every 1 kid who gets a spot in a program.
  • Kids in afterschool and summer programs have better grades, are more likely to graduate, and even earn higher incomes with better jobs as adults.
  • Our local communities - from schools to libraries to summer camps - rely on this federal funding.
  • Nearly 9 in 10 voters say that quality, affordable afterschool and summer programs help parents work and strengthen the economy.
  • Lack of afterschool costs U.S. businesses up to $300 BILLION a year.

Script for calling (Calling works best!)

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I live in [City], Iowa. I’m reaching out to ask [Rep./Sen. Name] to protect funding for afterschool. These programs are a lifeline for kids and families across our state—providing a safe, supportive place for more than 11,000 young people to learn, grow, and thrive after school and during the summer.

These programs:

  • Help students succeed in school and life
  • Support working families
  • Boost our local workforce and economy

Iowa’s youth deserve the chance to shine—thank you for helping protect their future.
