Afterschool Expansion: Meeting the Need
LaAmistad will open three new Afterschool programming locations this fall , achieving its organizational goal to host 20 individual programs by 2020. We are thrilled to be expanding our services in metro Atlanta, and providing academic and life enrichment programming to a larger segment of Atlanta's Latino community. According to a study by the PEW Research Center, Georgia is home to the fastest growing Latino population in the country, and we feel it is our duty as an organization to rise to meet this growing need. Check out our new program locations and their partner institutions below! We cant wait to welcome back all our incredible Afterschool volunteers to their home sites after Labor Day!

The 2020 Census: Fighting for Latino Voices
Improving quality of life for Latino students and families is LaAmistad's main objective. It's why we offer institutional supports like access to community resources, financial planning seminars, and assistance navigating the school system. We've made great strides, but in order for improvements to continue it is critical for the Latino community of Georgia to force lawmakers to take notice of the culture, needs, and challenges facing the Latino community today.

With the help of a recent grant from the Latino Community Fund, LaAmistad is proud to do its part to ensure that Atlanta's Latino community is both recognized and represented. The 2020 census is the first step in this process. Census data will determine demographic-based federal resource allocation for the next 10 years, and we're working hard to help make sure that our students and families have the supports they need well into the future. Click here to learn more about why it's so important that the Latino community stand up and be counted in 2020, and what you can do to help.
Hansgrohe USA Renews Support
For the second consecutive year, Hansgrohe USA has made a generous gift to our organization. Their $10,000 contribution will have a direct and immediate impact on the administration of our programs, and help improve outcomes for Latino students and families throughout metro Atlanta. It is with deep gratitude that we recognize Hansgrohe for their commitment to our mission, and for working to improve the lives of the students and families we serve. Thank you, Hansgrohe!
Success Spotlight: 2019 Suzanne W. Schirber LaAmistad Scholarship Awardees Ready for the Future

Former LaAmstad Afterschool student Alondra Juarez is no stranger to working hard for what she wants. Fiercely ambitious, Alondra would often work alongside her mother, a self-employed housekeeper, in the summer, never losing sight of her goals, “I always take a peek at the home office to see their degrees. I remind myself that maybe one day I will be able to own a house like this, and be able to provide my children with the same education that was granted to me.” Alondra will enter her freshman year Loyola University New Orleans this fall.
Jose Perez has been a member of the LaAmistad family for nearly his entire life. A truly remarkable young man, he has endured the departure of his father, an apartment fire, and multiple school changes throughout his academic career. In spite of everything the world threw at him, Jose remained determined to continue his education after graduating high school. This fall, Jose will lace up his cleats for the Oglethorpe University soccer team as he pursues his degree in business.
