Agape' Metropolitan Community Church
We Are The Church!
March 14, 2020 Response to COVID-19
Agape Family & Friends,

Your Pastor and Board of Directors wanted to reach out with information regarding your spiritual home. We recognize that this is a time of great anxiety and uncertainty about how to negotiate our daily lives. We met today to prayerfully discern our next steps and how we as a community will help see each other through.

What we are doing:

  • Continuously monitoring the latest news from CDC and WHO as well as information from MCC Headquarters
  • Implementing best practices to keep the community safe by sanitizing our spaces before and after every gathering
  • Cancelling all gatherings except for an abbreviated Sunday Morning Worship until further notice
  • Closing the social hall to everyone except staff including NO Sunday School until further notice
  • Requesting all people entering the building immediately wash their hands
  • Requesting that after hand washing, people take a few tissues and/or paper towels as needed for coughing or sneezing. These items will be easily accessible
  • Providing hand sanitizer stations next to doors
  • Providing food pantry items for the most vulnerable
  • Increasing prayer and meditation practices to assure we are taking good spiritual care of ourselves as leaders

What will worship service look like:

  • Service will start at 10:30 am for all who feel the need to gather
  • The service will be abbreviated in both time and content
  • Communion will be served but in a safer format
  • Time of greeting will be your favorite non-contact, peace be with you, Namaste, wave or peace sign
  • We will tape the service to post on our website as usual and we will attempt our first FB live 😊 so be watching

What can you do:

  • Pray, Mediate and stay grounded
  • Join us on Facebook live at 10 :30 am on Sunday if you are staying home
  • Check on each other, call, MSG, or send a message on Facebook
  • Send your prayer requests, our prayer warriors are ready and waiting to be in pray with you
  • Please continue to give as you are financially able via Zelle, Venmo, Simple Give or mail if necessary (We appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve our community.)
  • Send prayers and support for your Pastor, Board Members and all Leaders as we make hard decisions about how to gather and support our community in times of uncertainty. Thank you for having our best interests at heart.
  • Take breaks from news and/or social media
  • Make life affirming healthy choices throughout your day. Listen to music you love, listen to positive podcasts, watch a heartwarming movie, read a book, take a walk, call a friend, ask for help and laugh. Self-care and Connection are key during these times.

We will be utilizing our Facebook page for daily information and updates as this uncertain time progresses. We will be reaching out to see how we can best be of service. We are committed to keeping the connections within our community strong and helping reduce the feelings of isolation and anxiety.

You are the beloved and together We are the church.

Pandemic
What if you thought of it
as the Jews consider the Sabbath—
the most sacred of times?
Cease from travel.
Cease from buying and selling.
Give up, just for now,
on trying to make the world
different than it is.
Sing. Pray. Touch only those
to whom you commit your life.
Center down.

And when your body has become still,
reach out with your heart.
Know that we are connected
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.
(You could hardly deny it now.)
Know that our lives
are in one another’s hands.
(Surely, that has come clear.)
Do not reach out your hands.
Reach out your heart.
Reach out your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.

Promise this world your love–
for better or for worse,
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live.
