Agape Youth & Family Center is deeply saddened by the passing of Rev. Dr. Joanna M. Adams, whose vision and leadership helped make Agape possible.
While serving as senior pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Joanna believed that making a difference in the community required more than financial support—it meant showing up, building relationships and serving. Her vision brought members of Trinity and other faith and community organizations into the nearby Bolton Road community, where Agape began in 1997 as a one-day-a-week after-school program serving 25 children, along with programming for senior citizens.
Joanna remained closely connected to Agape throughout its growth, serving on Agape’s Advisory Council and continuing to champion our mission as Agape grew to serve hundreds of children, families and senior adults.
Joanna's legacy lives on not only through Agape’s work, but also through the Joanna M. Adams Building, our 35,000-square-foot facility named in her honor—a daily reminder of the woman who believed faith should be put into action and that lives could change when a community showed up for one another.
As Agape approaches its 30th anniversary in 2027, we are profoundly grateful for Joanna’s life, leadership and belief in what was possible.
Agape is Joanna’s vision brought to life, and we will continue to carry that vision forward—one child, one family and one community at a time.
