Agape Membership Class,
Sunday, July 15, 12:15 - 1:30

Rev. David will be hosting a membership class for folks who are considering becoming members of our church community. The class covers Agape's history, the history of Metropolitan Community Church (our denomination), some "nuts and bolts" regarding our structure, our theology of membership, and any other questions you might have.  We will meet in the youth classroom located in the social hall.
" Sacred, Creative, Vocation " - Rev. David Wynn

You know what I don’t know? Well, okay, that list that could go on forever…and while admitting we “don’t know” is the beginning of wisdom, according to the Saints…it doesn’t feel like wisdom. One of the big things I don’t know is how to convince folks that they are beautiful, important, and gifted…that they MATTER. A teacher once said to me “well, maybe that isn’t your job.” Yeah, yeah, whatever.

Why is it so easy to feel ourselves as not enough, not qualified, not able, and like we have nothing of value to offer? Why can we do that and it is difficult to feel the opposite of that…feeling enough, qualified (whatever the hell that means), able, and valuable?

My teacher was right it’s not MY job to cultivate the value of others…it’s ALL of our jobs!  And like most jobs, it starts with me, with US.

Every Sunday I tell our visitors that “those seated around you are the mystics, the prophets, the servants, dreamers, wanderers and ministers in this place and we are here for you” and I mean it, for reals! I think I should tweak it though to INCLUDE the visitors, and say “every one of us is a mystic (those who are present to awe and wonder), a prophet (as Rabbi Heschel states it, “called to interfere with what interrupts authentic life”), servants, dreamers, and ministers (those who listen) in this world, we all matter, and together we are the change agents and we create sacred space.

Believe it or not, we ARE made in the image of the Creator, every one of us carries within us the capacity to be a mystic, a prophet, to be creative, to be visionary, and to be an agent for positive change. It is our responsibility to say "here I am, send me" and to cultivate our capacity to benefit earth and all its creatures. What are we creating in this world that will cause positive ripples into the future? Ready or not, let’s talk about it some more on Sunday!
Agape' Summer Series - Sacred Earth, Sacred Worth

What if we lived life truly connected to the origins of Creation and the Creator? In the beginning God created all things and called them originally “good.”

In this series we will explore six essential ideas found in Creation Spirituality–a way of living within the community of earth that deepens our reverence for life, participates in the creativity of the cosmos, and develops our passion for justice and human transformation. It compels us to lead lives of spiritual inquiry, creativity, and prophetic action as our sacred work in the world.

Loving and gentle God, we come to you with full confidence in your steadfast love. Have mercy on us as we speak our hearts - we who often do not know how to pray, inspire us and give us words where we need them, and silence where it speaks most eloquently.

We pray for all world leaders: may they promote life, peace and justice for all peoples, and may we be quietly and Godly governed.

We pray for all victims of war throughout the world and victims of violence, especially remembering the people of Syria and Yemen: grant your protection and peace.

We pray for the refugee and alien: help us to look after the interests of the stranger among us. We grieve for the hardship of those who have had to flee their homes and countries in many places around the world, grant us insight and compassion.

We pray for all who suffer economic hardship: bring relief in measure of your abundance.

We remember those who have gone before us in the peace of Christ, may they rest in peace and rise in glory. Give comfort to all who mourn, and hope to the hopeless.

We lift up all who are in need of healing, in body, mind and spirit, for the suffering we do not understand, for the despairing and the forsaken. We especially pray for those who have no one to pray for them; grant your healing, help and wholeness.

We ask all these through Jesus Christ, our mediator and advocate. Amen...
