ECONOMIC AND AGRIBUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

South Africa's 2016/17 summer crop plantings data painted a mixed picture. On a broader view, the data showed a 19% year-on-year (y/y) increase in summer crop hectares - from 3.27 million hectares in 2015/16 production season to 3.88 million hectares. The key suppliers of oats to South Africa are Finland, United Kingdom, Australia, Ukraine, Brazil, and Uruguay.   Wandile Sihlobo reveals more in the linked article»

The key drivers of South Africa's chicken imports, broadly, come from mechanically deboned chicken and bone-in portions - these two product categories make up to 90% of the countries imports.  Tinashe Kapuya, Head International Trade and Investment Intelligence at Agbiz provides his view on what's next for SA's poultry sector in the linked article»
