POLICY AND LEGISLATION
"As the dust settles on the past month's dramatic political developments and the much publicised investment downgrades by the rating agencies Standard and Poor's (S&P) and Fitch to so-called junk status, reality sets in and we have to determine what the probable impact will be, and more importantly, how we deal  with this less than satisfactory situation," writes Dr John Purchase, Agbiz, CEO - Read more»
The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform published the draft regulations to the Property Valuation Act (Act 17 of 2014) on 21 April 2017. The public has been given 60 days to submit comments and Agbiz will be preparing comments for submission before 22 June. The FDA has banned using medically important antibiotics for growth promotion in animal production, affecting the food supply chain, from producer to consumer. Adopting technology to prevent development of antimicrobial resistance in the food supply chain will be a big challenge in the agriculture and food industries over the next few years.

At the 2017 International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IFAMA) World Conference, a panel of agribusiness experts will gather to discuss the implications the FDA ban will have on the market through the coming years.

Agbiz CEO, Dr John Purchase, will facilitate a panel discussion on the changing dynamics of world food trade and Sub-Saharan Africa's ability to meet the requirements of enhanced trade regulations.

Andries Radley, NWK Group Manager: Business strategy, will present on strategies implemented by South African agribusinesses to optimise profitability and growth.  The presentation is based on his thesis titled: Sustainable profitability and growth of South African agribusinesses. In 2014, Andries was awarded the Agbiz Agribusiness Centenary Bursary. He recently successfully  completed his PhD in agricultural economics at the North-West University.

The IFAMA 2017 World Conference is June 18-21 in Miami, Florida, USA. Click on programme  and conference flyer for more information.   Register today!
