Age-Friendly Englewood  is a community-wide project that is working 
to ensure that residents of Englewood can age-in-place 
in their homes and in the community with dignity and independence. 
Age-Friendly Englewood seeks to help the community 
become 
more livable for people of all ages, 
with particular attention 
to the rapidly growing number of older adults. 

An age-friendly community is one that is a great place 
to grow up and grow old.

Top Priority:  Pedestrian Safety!

Our Task Force has met with Councilwoman Cheryl Rosenberg and with the City Engineer to review the criteria and process for improvements in crosswalks, intersections, sidewalks, etc. 

The City's Traffic Advisory Committee will meet on Monday, April 6, at 7:30 PM in the Municipal Court.  If you interested in learning what is being proposed, or if you want to suggest additional improvements  come to this meeting!

Affordable Senior Housing 
in Fair Lawn

Applications are now available for affordable senior housing in Fair Lawn.  Construction is nearly complete and the building is e expected to open this summer.  Click here for details and to apply.

And if you really want more senior housing in Englewood, come to a City Council meeting and tell the Council during the Public Comment section of the meeting!  Here's the calendar of meetings.

Arts for Life NJ is hosting a FREE art class for those age 50+ on Wed., March 11, at 2 PM, at the Englewood Police Dept., 75 South Van Brunt St., Englewood

Englewood artist Yvonne Crichton will share her talent, using recycled materials to make beautiful objects. Bring home something special for yourself or someone you love!    Reservations are necessary; walk-ins will not be admitted to the class. To reserve your place at the police station, email jguttman@me.com.

In-Home Dementia Care Training
If you need support but can't get out of the house, you can join the JCC on the Palisades' Virtual Dementia Caregiver Training. From your computer or iPad you will learn from a Geriatrician, Eldercare Law expert, and other professionals.
Topics covered include: recognizing the early warning sings, understanding behaviors and learning tips on how to deal with them, get advice for proper legal and financial planning and take a virtual dementia tour.

CALENDARS OF MARCH ACTIVITIES

It's March! While winter has never quite arrived, but Spring is still ahead!
Enjoy the many venues and activities available in or near Englewood.

Alzheimers New Jersey offers numerous community education programs every month.    

Englewood Department of Parks & Recreation offers several programs throughout the year. 
 
Englewood Public Library has really ramped up its programs.  Check out their calendar - there truly is something for everyone of every age.

One of Englewood's best features is its  beautiful parks! Go ice skating at Mackay Park!  Here's the schedule. 

Flat Rock Brook Nature Center's 3+ miles of trails are open dawn to dusk daily throughout the year; the Center also hosts guided walks and a number of programs that highlight environmental and seasonal changes. A walk in the snow is blissful!
 
Kaplen JCC on the Palisades  offers a full-service day program with Kosher lunch and very low cost transportation plus a calendar jam-packed with activities, which are FREE.  

Palisades Interstate Park is huge and has numerous programs throughout the park every month.  Check out their many beautiful sites and activities!

SESCIL (South East Senior Center for Independent Living) offers a broad range of activities. You can attend your first activity at no charge; to join, and participate in as many activities as you wish, the cost is just $50 for a  FULL YEAR!
 
Senior Source in The Shops at Riverside (Riverside Square) offers activities free of charge weekday mornings through early afternoon.

Women's Rights Information Center offers programs mostly (but not always) for women of all ages.
